i was surprised by the numbers- not much else
Va tech was included out of respect for a great program (as was ND)
Ole miss was included to piss them off (they will have a disappointing year this year)
moo st, just for another sec school.

Ohio st had 35k baseball fans in 2008 (vs what 700-800k? football) that was more in line w/ what most people would expect (despite ohio st having many more baseball games.)
college baseball is not on the same level as college football or basketball- but should get mor attention than lacross, woman's basketball, etc.
w/ 400k fans a year, college baseball IS a major sporting team here. (just like college hockey is a big deal in Boston)

and yes 50k is a random number, but I would think any top 50 football program could have stadiums w/ >50 seats. and va tech was loud w/ 65k (having 1000 band members didnt hurt- just ditch the hokie pokie and I have no prob w/ the hokies!)

Miami football has never had a passionate fanbase, shite their homegames weren't sold out even back when they were good

Miami's attendance numbers haven't correlated with their past success. Weren't they playing in Dolphin stadium which could hold a good bit..

Also, can't help that the box office probably doesn't accept pesos.

Naw, they played in the Orange Bowl. Which, much like the Coliseum, is in the middle of a ghetto. USC fans pack the Coliseum but Canes fans could never do the same with the OB. But Miami in general is a shitty town for sports, fan-wise. I mean shite Dolphins playoff games don't sell out, either...

Not a very sound debate about attendance. I think I heard one time about how NASCAR has the highest attendance records in sports. My logic was: if you build a huge stadium and play a game with 42 football teams versus each other at once, then the attendance would be impossible to count.

Point: inter-sport attendance comparisons do not work.

College baseball is not a national sport.

Would you please enlighten me as to which part of the nation does not play baseball?

These numbers are pretty cool, in that it shows a level of interest on par with many football programs. 'Interest' being defined as the ability to sell tickets, whether its by selling them to 90,000 people 6 times or to 9,000 people 30 times.

selling 9,000 thirty times is harder IMO. A greater percentage of the 9000 will be repeat customers who have to retain interest throughout the duration.
