Why did we need to hire another Coach to come in and "Help" with the Run Game?

Why don't we have an Offensive Line Coach that can produce a decent run game on his own. (The RB's are certainly "Good Enough.")
_____

I choose to view this as an adjustment to improve a weak area. Do not care that we have an extra coach focused on an area that BK wasn't content with.

He was not very creative and overly predictable.
___________

He gets some credit for our successes. Everyone agrees he was predictable with many run plays, but we were a productive offense last year. He was no Joe Brady, but I don't consider him a failure. He.needs to take the next step in his growth as an OC.

Sloan needs to get better at redzone playcalling

Agree.

This thread is portraying him as a failure last year. I am not in that boat. Redzone and the running game need to improve, but we had a lot of offensive success last year. I remember the years where 200 yards passing was considered successful for us.

You nailed it with redzone offense - 11th in the SEC in 2024 at 64% TD conversions. I'd think that's entirely because we weren't able to run the ball - 15th in the SEC in rushing offense with only 123 yards per game. If Nuss starts scrambling a bit more and our rushing attack gets to at least average among the SEC, I think Sloan's job will get much easier. It starts with having better guard and center play and not having a vanilla run game.

Unproven but I believe he’s young and smart , learned valuable experience last year. Intelligent enough to watch and adjust- also Atkins there to help with run game.

I don’t fault him but rather BK b/c it was a lazy hire for a big time program like LSU.

Sloan is fine. We'll do great on offense if we protect Nuss. Just got to stop the big plays on defense.

He has to be able to adjust more. He has to be multiple in formations and not show the same things over and over again.

I am fine with trying to use Johnson's talent, but don't see the logic of making this the primary criteria to measure Sloan.

Sloan needs to build on the success in the passing game, improve the running game, and be better in the red zone. He can't be as predictable on 2nd. Not sure a single criteria can measure an OC.

That is just an easy way to judge his creativity. And BTW, it would NOT matter one bit if LSU's most major problem wasn't scoring TDs in the red zone. Short yardage anywhere on the field and red zone offense exposes creativity or the lack thereof. And Sloan failed miserably in that area. And BTW, the fact that Kelly hired a new run game coordinator tells me he thinks Sloan needs help on rush game development.
