Hey Gliterein I have to disagree with you and correct me if I am wrong but didnt Lee stand in the pocket and take a big hit on the first TD pass to Mitchell against Auburn. Others in the Florida game and I believe he stood in took a hit and completed the ball against ole miss when he got hurt. Trying to figure out what your really trying to say..........

JJ is a FAR bigger obstacle for JL to overcome than RS is presently or will be in the future.

but according to reports from the first week of practice, Lee threw more solid passes

think something will happen about mid-season ( JJ struggling in the SEC or getting injured) JL will get another chance and will run with it. I don't think Sheppard makes an impact at QB this season, maybe somewhere else on the field though.

At Florida he went 11-13 on consecutive TD drives to pull the team to 20-14 in the 3rd quarter. Against GA he came back with TD drives several times, and against Bama he was 4-5 on the Q4 TD drive to tie the game. I don't know if he can overcome his issue with field vision, or not, but the ability to perform in key spots is not a question mark IMO.

oldbutwise,
lee did make that pass vs. auburn, but the hit that he took affected him the rest of the season.
he is as different as night and day in practice and in games. in scrimmages, he has calmly directed long drives against our 1st team defense and he has been doing it ever since he got here.
ALL of his shortcomings in games can be traced back to his fear of contact.to be somewhat fair, he played in a HS system that ALWAYS allowed him to throw very quickly. he never had to face the threat of being hit by a live rush until he played in a real game at LSU.
he NEVER steps up in the pocket - which would put him closer to the LOS. crowton even tried rolling him out at mid-season - not to run, but to place him farther away from the pass rush in hopes that he would be more comfortable and less scared.
he NEVER scrambles for yardage - he is afraid to get tackled. remember when he scrambled right and had 2 yards in an open field to pick up a first down, but threw it away over the bench instead?
crowton knows this and NEVER called for lee to run a QB draw or even a QB sneak.
to overcome the habit of locking onto a receiver, crowton had lee practice mechanically looking left and then throwing a slant right. lee did this perfectly in practice. he NEVER did it in a game because he was so intent on getting rid of the ball ASAP to avoid being hit.
often, lee threw the ball too soon, before a route had developed, because he was afraid of being hit.
he is MUCH better in a 2-minute drill situation because he knows, before the snap, that he will be throwing it quickly enough to minimize the chances that he will get hit. look at the florida film.
sure, lee has developed one of the quickest releases you've ever seen - now you know why.

I too agree that RS has none to little effect on the qb situation in 2009.
SOrry if i have a hard getting extremely fired up over an undersized guy that has good speed.
This is not texas high school football. I think RS will be good. Just not sure if QB is where he will excell.

I think.. he is a solid QB.
I think that it is sad that a QB has already been ruled out by most of the team's fan base before his SOPHOMORE year.
If a man is expected to perform his best ever during his freshman year, then what the hell is so good about having teams full of seniors?
If Miles sees fit to start Lee at QB, then I am going to support him. And I will be ready to punch anybody in the nose who boos after his first incompletion.
I am excited about our talent, and whoever starts at QB has my support
