Wes is a solid family man and the MLB life separated him from his wife and kids for months at a time. He was ready to get back to the SEC.

He’s a pretty well respected college pitching coach as well….except for some on the rant that think he’s an injury magnet. Seems like a strange move from MLB back to college though. And having a good season with the Twins. Nothing negative just weird.

His nickname was TJ at MSU short for Tommy John. 6 players had Tommy John from overuse in one season

Yeah that's probably why he's gone to Arkansas and then the Twins since. It's easy to say the pitching coach overuses a guy when he blows a UCL. Truth is...most of these kids are overused well before they get to college and their elbows are already on borrowed time. I know for sure Wes uses the highest training tools/throwing programs available with arm health as a top priority.

This is flat out the truth. This is why pitchers cannot manage throwing 200 IPs anymore...less than 10 a year seem to do it...guys were throwing 300 IPs into the 1980s...the difference now is that they are throwing THOUSANDS of more innings between ages 8-18 - before MLB or college. The body is not designed to allow the hand to go over the shoulder without tremendous damage being done. These 18 YO arms coming through HS are more worn out than 30 year olds were a generation ago.

I look forward to the day where they can inject something into ligaments like the UCL and ACL to strengthen them.
