What kind of message are you sending your "future" QB, when you think playing him in a two-loss-and-counting season sends the message that you're "packing it in"?

I would hope he has enough sack to understand that he has room (and need) to improve and that if he works hard his time will come.... and soon.

How does one pass attempt against UK help him develop?

Not much but if they put him in two drives earlier I'm sure you'd still complain. They've got to try to develop Jennings too. He is the starter after all.

When has Harris played well under pressure?

He's only been allowed to play under pressure twice. The first time against Miss. St. he looked like Tom Brady. The second time against Auburn, he looked like Marsha Brady.

As a freshman, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that the first time is more indicative of his actual capabilities than the second.

When Jennings has played under pressure, he's just looked like Jordan Jefferson every time.

Believe this; the coaches care more about winning than any fan. Why are we debating this over and over again? We are not showing that this is a competition now. Harris' reps have faded. I think the coaches realized they made a mistake rushing him into action. However, I don't think the qb situation pertaining to Harris' use all season makes sense. It is what it is now and there is no reason to believe Harris will be an important factor this year.

If that's your idea of a joke then

You'll play next season, Brandon, we all have hope and faith in you.

Coaches have a "win the next game above all costs" attitude because it's in their professional DNA, not because it's always necessarily the best strategy. The reason for that is they usually get their first real coordinator/HC jobs at schools with struggling programs, and they are given a narrow window to turn things around. The attitude makes sense for that kind of scenario, but when you have a secure job at a top program you need to evolve.

Miles thinks the same way he did in the 70's, 80's and 90's. Like most coaches, he's spent most of his professional life "coaching for his job" every week, being worried about keeping food on the table for his family. In some ways, I'm glad he doesn't take his job at LSU for granted, but in this instance with Harris it's turning into a big negative. We're being put in a worse position to compete for a national championship next year because of this.

Not sure our coaches have the same opinion. BTW - look for another 1/9 game plan.
Miles is going to try to pound AL like he has done the last 3 games. Try to keep it close going into the 4th Quarter. Slow it down and run some clock.

What a terrible plan? That's the goal of any coach, any team. At all costs? What is he doing to damage the program? I don't understand. Why is Harris the answer? Maybe the future, but who really knows. For all you know, the best qb on our roster next year will be Mcmillian. The fact is, Harris hasn't looked ready yet. Miles is making the right call and the improved play by the overall team is evidence. By the way, it's as much Cameron's call as Miles so if you want to bash one, you need to bash both.

Exactly. With two losses already, it's not like we're winning a national title this year so I'm not sure why we're so concerned with "game management." We should be investing in our best QB and giving him reps.

what jennings did against new mexico state was far worse than anything harris has done in games fwiw

quote:

Freshman Brandon Harris entered the game with 9:28 left in the first half to the delight of a sparse crowd in Tiger Stadium. He played 20 snaps and produced four touchdowns while LSU scored once in seven possessions in 16 plays with Jennings at the helm

Harris finished the first half with six completions in seven attempts for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Jennings was two of five for 11 yards with two interceptions.

yes, it was new mexico state, but jennings was awful and harris was fantastic. jennings hasn't played like that again, and I don't think harris would play like he did against auburn again either.

WARDROBE MALFUNCTION LEAVES MILES SEEING RED: One of the reporters at Miles' Wednesday night press conference made the mistake of wearing red with the No. 14 Tigers (7-2, 3-2 SEC) hosting the No. 4 Crimson Tide (7-1, 4-1 SEC) at 7 p.m. Saturday in Tiger Stadium.

"You've got to get permission to have another color shirt on, especially in certain weeks," Miles said, pretending as if he was mad. "You should know better." Then he winked.
