then that becomes week 1. So maybe that’s the solution. Make week 0 week 2, teams get 3 bye weeks, if the play in Hawaii they can use one of those for a 13th game if they want to. That actually works

I wasn't aware of the one team per conference in division 500 exception. I was wrong.

What I'm not wrong about is we should NEVER LET A SEASON OPENING OPPONENT PLAY A WEEK 0 GAME, PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's bull spit, and we're a big enough brand to dictate those terms. If other schools want to circumvent the spirit of playing a KICKOFF GAME, then move on to another opponent who will abide by this.

You're wrong about that too

Great idea, Einstein. Let's keep losing these season opening games we shouldn't be motherfLucking losing, because we don't MANDATE the terms of the opener.

Yes, we had shrimp boat last year at UCLA. But we've also had the best coach in the history of the game lose because of it (at VA Tech 2002), and our current coach with a 75% winning percentage got burned by it last week.

I honestly can't determine if you are retarded or purposely being obtuse. Do you seriously think we can't sign a contract stipulating first game for both teams? If so, I feel sorry for you.

The idea that LSU can mandate these terms for any opponent is kind of silly. They can choose not to play a high profile game that brings them money. And I would be OK with that. But you and I have no idea what goes on behind the scenes on these deals. We already have our first games set through 2026. Most of those signings, probably all of them, happened before we lost back to back games to opponents who played a week 0 game so probably little thought was given to that since those are rare.

Oh, not to the least of which is the week 0 game was not the reason we lost either of those games. Would a week 0 game against a marginal opponent have exposed any of the weaknesses we saw vs FSU? Maybe, but I doubt all of them. And probably not the special teams blocking issues. Maybe not even the punt issues.

Would it be helpful to knock off the rust? Sure.

Would it mean we win the FSU game? Maybe.

You think that is why LSU lost 28-6 vs Va Tech? Va Tech's worst loss was 56-45 vs #1 Miami. No other loss in regulation by more than 7 3OT loss by 8 to Syracuse in Syracuse.

Obtuse is another poster. My late sister was mentally retarded, so I can say from first hand experience that I am not. Although I will say, she spoke two languages fluently (french and english, her english was better than many posters here) and could cuss like a sailor in either (I think my brother must have taught her those words )

Can we? Sure. Can we demand it because we're LSU damn you? Not really. There are few programs that can do that.

I would honestly think those event type games would add that to their contracts so that it means they are truly a kickoff game.

I appreciate that. awfully nice of you.

It's not Chinese algebra. Here's the scenario:

FSU, will you agree to not schedule a game before our KICKOFF GAME? No? Bye

Then you go down the list:

Penn St
Oklahoma
Texas
ND
Michigan
Clemson
Miami

Until you find someone (and you will) to agree to the terms of this being the first game.
BELIEVE me, there are plenty of teams that want to play LSU and would agree to this. It's common sense. And yes, we very well may have won that game at VA Tech in 2002. Virtually every coach will tell you their team improves the most from week 1-2. And I have a sneaking suspicion it would have been worth at least the 2 points we needed against FSU.
