I had a friend that did a "couples" wedding shower during a home LSU game. I sent my gift with someone else and went to the game cause I had season tickets.

I got married the weekend after the SEC Championship in 1998. Keep in mind that LSU did not go to Atlanta until 2001. We were married on this date because we didn’t want to inconvenience family and friends just in case we went to Atlanta. Your friend is pretty selfish.

I was getting ready to find some tickets for my daughter and myself last week when she texted me and said her high school basketball coach had pencilled in a tournament for SEC championship weekend.

college football in the South is much more than just a game -- it's part of the cultural fabric. Those claiming "it's just a football game" just don't understand.
We're not Neanterthals wanting to skip a wedding just to sit around in our boxers watching kids run around a field, yelling at the TV.
LSU football (and more generally, college football in the South) is so much more than that. And I feel sorry for those people that don't get it.
