If you watched the national championship and say everyone should just trust the coaches and what offense they want, then I don't know what to say to you.
What does this even mean? I love people that say they didn't call any downfield passing plays. This is 100% false. They didn't complete any maybe, the QB didn't execute them, but they called them.

Guys quick slants, and bubble screens are part of a good passing game. Our coaches new those take more timing than PA bombs.
We could have probablly PA passed north Texas to death with 10 deep bombs, but our coaches worked on the smaller things.

I have read this for the last 16 hours and it's just bogus. WE, as fans, don't need to see anything. If the coaches like where are passing game is, then that is all that matters. Plus, you fools throw this phrase around and fail to realize what the hell it means. How many posts and go routes do you think we should actually run??? We ran a few and connected on a few. That offense last night was as balanced as we've been in a long time.
They had the opportunity to change the conversation from last year and turn the page. They didn't take it. Strategically that was a very poor PR decision, and it didn't help the QB either.

negative, I try to be objective and fair in every analysis. You, on the other hand, seem to be primarily driven by your hate for Miles.

Exactly this. Why would we unload our playbook on North Texas, when we had a comfortable lead the entire game? Anyone who continues to question and doubt the winningest coach in LSU history needs some perspective. . . And, oh by the way, we had over 500 offensive yards and won 41-14 last night.

You realize there is an intermediate between 2 yd passes and 30-40 yd passes?
I'm glad mett got the wr screen down, that really gave him some good game experience.

We were 1-1 against a team with equivalent talent, no?
It doesn't work that way. You can only count the second game or the game that was lost (whichever serves the purpose).
The importance of that loss then supersedes any logical argument that can be presented.

Dumbest excuse ever. I'm sure Oregon, USC, and WVU ran bubble screens up and down the field all night for the sake of not opening up the playbook.

How many games have we had a serviceable QB under center
Who's job is it to make sure we keep one on the team? That is a completely tired excuse
You're right, they should have done better with QB recruiting and development, but your response is also a tired one. WE can't go back and re recruit in 2006 and 2010. That's the trouble with missing on QB's and not having adequate one's in the pipeline, it takes years to over come. They appear to have this corrected going forward with Mettenberger, Rivers, and Rettig and Jennings coming in.

we have won 2 of last 3 against bama. What did we have in the 2 wins that we didn't have in the one loss?

Last season, LSU beat two of the three teams you listed. Why would we try to do things like them?

My point is every week we have fans saying "we just played it vanilla this week, wait until next week to open it up". Eventually people have to realize this is our offense, not some vanilla shite to prevent future teams from game planning.

Some of these posts are just funny...in the face of Miles himself calling the game "sloppy". Rantards will bleed purple and gold even when the coach himself that they are defending was not happy with the game...lol.

The excuses change week to week but the anemic vertical passing game remains. It was Crowton's fault, QB's not good enough, OL not good at pass protection, RB's didn't pick up blitz, didn't get enough practice, coaches didn't get a chance to figure out all offseason that blitz pickup needed work blah blah blah. The bottom line is this vertical passing game remains elementary. Every aspect from top to bottom needs to be tightened up. Miles does a great job with the running game but the excuses are tired regarding the passing game.

Two things!
1. Cal Tiger is an idiot. How in the hell does the first game last year against Alabama just not matter to you? No credit!!!! For beating your God!

a time to get Mett confidence and experience and to work out the kinks.

quote:Considering North Texas was hitting Mett every time he dropped back (absolutely not biting on play-action), and put him out of the game once, that would have led to Rivers starting the Washington game. Or maybe Bolden (remember Rivers was under pressure the one pass he attempted too).
We could have probablly PA passed north Texas to death with 10 deep bombs, but our coaches worked on the smaller things.
Right now straight dropbacks should not be a big part of our scheme. This isn't about the coaching, it's about recognizing our line couldn't protect the QB against a sub-par team. Until that is fixed, we need to be relying on the ground game and defense.
Maybe the Washington game will be better. I expect it won't be fun to be a lineman in practice this week

Different packages and formations will negate pressure FWIW. We don't have to just stick to basic pro set with some basic shotgun thrown in there.
