explain how it really happened
Why? So you can pretend that whatever he says is wrong and that it happened exactly the way you described since you know no one can link every play of the game to prove you wrong (which still wouldn't work because you'd just pretend whatever the film showed was what you described, whether it was or not)?

Bottom line: either you believe the bad things you saw will cause a bad season, or there is absolutely no reason to complain except that you like to bitch and whine and piss other people off (which would make you a complete and utter douche). So, if you believe what you saw will cause a bad season, go ahead and tell us which games we will lose (or at least how many), okay?

And the 5th guy was almost always a delayed, slow Riley or Cutrera running right into the first blocker they saw and not even getting more than 1 yard behind the line of scrimmage by the time the ball was thrown.
I remember one twist blitz we ran with Riley and Cutrera going right up the middle and blowing up the play about 4 yards in the backfield.

Of course not. Any attempt to explain something to a person who had made up his mind about what he was going to see before he even saw it would be an utter waste of time. No matter what is explained or shown to you, there is absolutely zero chance of you ever acknowledging that the game did not play out in EXACTLY the manner you described it.

Edited the tit for tat stuff.

Sometimes you blitz to get the QB. Other times you blitz so the QB will throw short of the first down on 3 and long.

Knowing why you are blitzing makes all the difference.

Our run blitz's were money for the most part. Cutrera and Riley stunted a couple times and met the rb in the hole.

Pass blitz's, not so much.

Our pass blitzes suck arse because we refuse to play bump and run coverage w/ our CB's. Just like tigerjake said, if you blitz, the QB is going to try to get the ball out as fast as possible. You have to make the play take longer to develop. Imagine that your D faces a 3rd and 5 and an I-form offensive set. You have four AA DE's on the field and blitz two 4.4 running LB's against a 6-7 man blocking scheme. If you put your CB's into deep +10 yard zones, do you think you can get a sack or hurry before the WR's catch a three to five-step drop slant or crossing route? Hell no.

Saban showed the way. Get good cover CB's that can jam WR's at the line, and bring varied, disguised blitzes. Defend the field from the inside out; make the QB have to throw perfect sideline passes under pressure. You don't do it all the time, but the "Hey Bo P, let's make Ricky Clausen look like an AA" candy-arse shite is lame. It is the same crap Mallveto ran against Troy in '08.

But our fan base thinks that it's impossible to have a bad play if you blitz.

How is it possible for you to know what an entire fan base thinks?

It was my impression that besides the desguising of our blitzes under Saban, the other reason for their effectiveness was penetration by the line. Forcing the O-line to hold their blocks longer and creating lanes for the LBs and DBs to use.

I didn't think we were getting penetration as well as we could have, but I expect that to change as the season plays out. He is a new DC, is he not???

I find it funny that one person mentions linebackers coming on a delay which is often by design and a whole series of post follows talking about how our guys can't blitz effective and fast and it is coachable. Not all blitz packages are designed for the rusher to hit the line when the ball is snapped.
