the offense created driving lanes. he got to the basket. it's his job to kick to the open 3 point shooter or go in with a little more control. on one of them, he fed a big for an open layup.

i'm annoyed by your characterization of the offense as street ball. drive and kick is used by everyone. we got open shots. we missed them.

do the houston rockets play "streetball"? do the warriors? the ball has been moving.

why you're calling out those plays rather than the defensive breakdown that gave up an open layup up by one is beyond me.

If you thought my original post was long about the offense then you probably don’t want me to write about the defense. It’s bad. It’s a major factor in all of our losses and even in our wins not being easier.

We can’t defend pick and roll. We can’t switch properly. We can’t keep up with cutters. We can’t communicate and we get caught looking at the ball instead off bettering our block out position. With that being said, we don’t create the same situation on the other end. We don’t screen much. We don’t cut much.

It's almost like it's going to take time to undo the lack of coaching LSU has had for the last 5 years...

Been reading this crap. B Ball was my game you really don't know anything about the game if you think we are free lancing it. Lots of pick and rolls. Major improvement in defense since Tulane Scrimage, and yes I saw in person. With Jones these same guys didn't have a clue what defense was. I don't think it will take as long as some of you think to get respectful again in round ball. With two to three of Wades guys watch out. I ,for one cannot wait so tired of reading other team fans talking so much crap.

And I really hope wade is the guy to do it. But I can’t believe all these people getting on me confusing criticism with wade bashing. I’m not bashing him but I’m also not going to blind praise him either. We praised Johnson his first year. We praised jones his first two years and look where we are.

I like some things he’s done. He’s motivational and directive from the sideline. Our ft percentage is up, which means we put effort into practicing it. We’re scoring more despite my criticism of how. But the defense is still atrocious 9 games in. I’m not ready to label him the basketball savior yet.

Coach Brown screwed up big time when he overstepped his boundaries. He and Temple hand picked Jones. Down vote me all you want but I do know a little about this. I see a lot more coaching going on. Go back and look at Mays last year no defense at all now his effort is there. Look some guys just cannot defend. Wait to Sampson gets back I for one think we make some noise. Let's get together and cheer on the boys so we can shut up the other fan bases. They you can go to sec rant and mouth off , patience grass hopper. LOL!!!

EXPLAYER,

I like wade so far. I’m optimistic. I realize he’s got to change the culture, from the players to the fan base. And some things are better. Free throw shooting is much better. Turnovers were better (until today). However, our defensive breakdowns are unbelievable.

I’ve learned my lesson to freely give out blind praise until there’s a much larger sample. We were all excited after johnson’s first year, as well as jones’ probably first two years. Then look what happened.

LOL If I said the same thing with JJ still there, then I could see why someone may think I'm toking on some wacky-tobbacky. Some people are winners, they make people around them better, I just think Wade is one of those type people. Is it Wade or you don't believe LSU has players capable of being a top 20 team? Maybe I am being overly optimistic. But this team has been together for only a few weeks, and still learning under a new coach. Perhaps the learning curve will be much broader than what I expect. Still, I believe before the season is over, if they are not a top 20 team, they will definitely turn some heads and beat some top 20 teams. I understand optimism isn't a valued attribute on this site, especially dealing with LSU. Seems that people gravitate towards that catastrophic mentality more so than an optimistic mentality, but it's easy for me to be optimistic when I see a coach like Will Wade. Young, bright, energetic and has the passion to win and the drive to overcome failure. When this team begins to play with the influence of Wades characteristics, they are going to be tough to beat. Man, I saw Dale Brown coach some players against teams a lot more talented and win. It's not impossible LSU turns into a top 20 team. Just will take some work. Just my opinion. Then again, maybe it is the wacky-to................

Parrish, I’m mostly on your side with the optimism. This team could surprise people this year, which is why I’m upset about the loss today. It could have counted as a win against a team that has a good chance of winning their conference and getting to the dance.

However, I don’t see enough of an inside presence. Reath is poor against athletic teams. And the last two teams have double teamed him when he gets the ball anywhere close to the block. Unfortunately he is slow to react. And he’s no where close to the defensive presence his size should dictate down low. Epps is more athletic but not strong enough. Sims is no better on the defensive side than the other two mentioned. Combs hasn’t even played either because of nagging injuries or just can’t cut it. That’s about all we have.

Well, I know what you mean and I have no choice but to agree with you on those observations, because right now, you are right. The truth is the truth, regardless how much sugar is sprinkled on it. They may be able to overcome the inability to score off the block by penetrating and laying it up or passing. Problem with that is any team with good perimeter defense will keep guys from driving. Then you're right back to where you started, a big man who has trouble scoring off the low post. I just hope Naz turns out to be a good low post player. I'm not sure if his skill set and ability is closer to Jarell Martin or Karl Malone, though. But yea, loses like today are just frustrating. A school like LSU should never lose to a school like SFA.

You say this like being Jarrell Martin would be a bad thing.
