STARKVILLE, Miss. – The No. 11 LSU Women’s Basketball team (21-4, 9-3 SEC) will go head-to-head with Mississippi State (15-9, 6-6 SEC) Thursday at 6 p.m. CT inside Humphrey Coliseum.
“They push the ball in transition, they shoot the three, they’ll go five guards sometimes,” LSU Head Coach Kim Mulkey said about the Bulldogs. “A lot of movement. A lot of dribble-penetration. We have them size wise, but that’s not always great depending on matchups defensively.”
The Tigers have four games remaining in the regular season and they control their own destiny. LSU has the opportunity to finish as high as No. 2 in the SEC and is in a position to clinch one of the Top-16 seeds in the NCAA Tournament which would allow the Tigers to host first and second round games in the PMAC. LSU has won its most regular season games since the 2007-08 season.
Thursday’s game can be streamed on the SEC Network + with Bart Gregory and Charlie Winfield on the call. Patrick Wright and Jeff Palermo will call the game on the LSU Sports Radio Network, 107.3 FM in Baton Rouge.
LSU features the most potent guard trio in the SEC. Khayla Pointer and Alexis Morris are the only two players from the same team inside the Top-10 in the SEC in scoring. Jailin Cherry is on pace to set new career marks for points per game, rebounds per game and assists per game.
LSU and South Carolina, the unanimous No. 1 team in the country who LSU took to the brink, are the only two teams to rank in the top four of the conference in scoring, field goal percentage, field goal percentage defense, and rebounding margin. With LSU’s trio of guards, LSU has been able to score the ball efficiently and their physical play, coupled with strong post defense, has allowed the Tigers to be successful defensively. All of LSU’s starters contribute significantly on the boards too, led by Autumn Newby who grabs 8.0 rebounds per game.
On the offensive end LSU would like to get more production from its post players. Over the past two games LSU’s bigs have contributed just 21 of LSU’s 147 points against Georgia and at Texas A&M.
“We just have to keep making everybody understand not one player can be hesitant, can lose their confidence; you’ve just got to keep playing,” Coach Mulkey stated.
LSU’s scoring offense ranks No. 2 in the SEC (75.9 ppg) and MSU is right behind at No. 3 (72.0 ppg). The Bulldogs feature Anastasia Hayes on offense, and she scores 19.1 points per game. JerKaila Jordan is MSU’s other top scorer. Both her and Hayes had over 20 points Tuesday at Kentucky, but the Bulldogs fell to the Wildcats after leading by 15 points with 7:10 left in the game.
“Going to Starkville is going to be difficult because they do support women’s basketball,” Coach Mulkey said.

- In Coach Kim Mulkey’s first season at LSU the Tigers have won more regular season games since the 2007-08 season. With LSU’s 21st victory, this season marks the most wins in a season in every player’s career on the current roster.
- In her 22nd season as a head coach, Coach Mulkey has won at least 20 games every season.
- LSU in No. 2 in the SEC in scoring offense (75.9) and scoring margin (+15.3).
- LSU’s 46.1-percent shooting is No. 2 in the SEC and No. 11 in the country.
- The Tigers’ rebounding has also been dominant and LSU is No.3 in the SEC with a +10.04 rebounding margin which also ranks No. 9 in the country. Autumn Newby grabs 8.04
rebounds per game for LSU, No. 6 in the conference.
- The LSU defense has also played well and limits opponents to shooting 37.3-percent (No. 3 in the SEC). When LSU holds opponents below 39.9-percent shooting, the Tigers have lost only once.
- The backcourt duo of Khayla Pointer and Alexis Morris has been exceptional scoring the ball. Pointer is No. 2 in the SEC with 19.3 points per game and has scored at least 20 in 13 games. Morris has scored 15.9 points per game and is No. 9 in the SEC in scoring.
- Pointer and Morris are the conference’s most potent guard combo in as the only duo from the same team that both rank in the top-10 in the SEC in scoring.
- Pointer and Morris both had big weeks. Pointer had 21 points against Georgia and 25 at Texas A&M. Morris put up 26 against the Bulldogs and against her former team at Texas A&M she had 25.
- Considered one of the best players in the country, Pointer has been named to the watchlists for the Naismith Trophy, Nancy Lieberman Award, Dawn Staley Award and the Wade Trophy this week. She has scored double-figures in 14 consecutive games.
- Morris was named SEC Player of the Week after scoring 26 points and sinking 6-6 free throws in the final minute of the Georgia game and then scoring 25 points, 16 in the second half, at Texas A&M to erase a six point halftime deficit.
- Center Faustine Aifuwa has shot the ball extremely well and leads the SEC in field goal percentage in conference games. Through 12 SEC games, Aifuwa is shooting 54.5-percent which is significantly higher than the next best shooting player in league play (.521)

Game time has been changed to 7:30. Bad weather coming through Starkville late afternoon. I guess they want to make sure the fans secure their trailers before leaving for the game.
Ree, perhaps you can include this in your thread title.

Probably more about making sure the officials and stuff can get there.

Was pretty rough here about 20 minutes ago. I'm about 45 miles west of Starkpatch. Sun trying to shine, now so, hopefully the worst is passed through

Mulkey is a straight gangster.

Wouldn't it be GREAT if this happens. Best thing that has happened to the girls program in years. I hope we can have double success this year in MBB and WBB. That way we don't have to think up excuses. GEAUX TIGERS.

Why does bad weather matter for a basketball game?

I’m guessing travel issues, but don’t know. Maybe so bad that lightning or severity put electricity issues at risks for lighting in arena, but just speculation

You may have to log out of your account and log back in.
I just went to the ESPN app on my Roku and went to the SECN+ channel listed below the conferences and it shows the game in there. When I click it it says
"Your even is about to begin
Please stand by"

Tennessee is losing to an awful Alabama team by 19

Why does the thread starter receive so many down votes? All he did in my mind was provide links to info about the game.

That's the progressive liberal Karens. They can't help themselves when a real man walks into the room
