Ive been talking to a few buddies of mine who are all High school coaches...yes, i know, high school, but they are at prominent Texas high schools and do make good money...so take it for what its worth...and yes, im sure Chavis knows all of this stuff...this is for us...

3 of them were telling me that LSU was going to stop the zone read because we have the ability and speed to blow it up in the back field...they said that you dont do that by going up the middle with LB's...they stay at home (and if your got good DL they'll do it for you NEVIS!)...tackle well...lock down WR's...blitz from the corners and take away "the give" option...now you got 2-3 LB's to contain 1 QB....

said that your blitzing corner will be most important...(Tyrann) because if he can take away the speed give...or get there in time or early...it fricks up the whole timing...take away the give and now you have LB's handling Cam and others handling everyone else...which is where you want to be...then they said dont be surprised if then in the second half it changes to the SS's (Loston) taking over for the corner because Auburn will change its Blocking Scheme to block Tyrann...

The shite was very complicated but they all knew it because they defend the Zone read on a weekly basis...

and for what its worth all three of them said that if the LSU offense could score some points and run the clock...it gives the Malzahn less series to adjust the blocking scheme...so running the football was more important...

all three picked LSU to win because they thought LSU has the speed and athletisim to shut it down...just gotta wrap up...

I thought it made a lot of since.....

thoughts...?

That is what I have read about the zone read as well. Gotta wrap up! NEVIS will have a monster game IMO.

Love it....another big game for Little Legend!!!!!!!! Or some call him Little Ball of Hate. Watching him cause Newton trouble is going to fire everybody up....gonna be monstrous!!!!!! If LSU does not kill them I will be suspect of them being a championship type team.

In my opinion, the best way to stop ANY option is penetration from your defensive line. Good tackling is also a key to any good defense.

LSU just needs to not turn the ball over and not give up big plays. If LSU can make that happen then we win by 2 touchdowns.

it does make sense, but Auburn will be trying to block our lineman meaning our D-line will have to play smart and not let the O line get to the second level. This worries me as our lineman are not huge and may have trouble creating stalemated at the point of attack. This I think is crucial to containing Cam. Our defense will make plays and slow Auburn down if we can hold them below 30 points we have good chance. It is our offense who must win this game more so than the D. We have to score points and control the tempo of the game.

Thanks for sharing.

The main thing that I noticed for teams that are successful running the triple option/spread offense (e.g., AU, Ducks, etc.) their O line is basically doing a great job of blocking and creating running lanes. If our guys win the battle at the line of scrimmange we'll make god, I mean Cam, look average. Pretty basic IMO.

they harped on these two things alot, but said auburn's oline isnt bad cause they are upperclassman...said if you can get penetration by the D-line it makes it even better and you dont have to blitz...(obvious)...
Tackling will be key...

The coaches are absolutely right. I'm just worried that there will be times that players will try to blow up Cam Newton with a big hit. Just wrap him up, bring him down with good fundamentals and we should be hearing a lot of

also, I believe our Dline is fast enough to get to Cam when the OL gets to the LB's....thats what I think is gonna happen...

I think they are going to block Lavar or Chancy (they wont go to the speedy DE's side, another thing they said), then release to get to get to LB's and Lavar has to be fast enough to make the play...

this is where Sam's injury hurts us the most I think...he was strong enough to be an anchor end but fast enough to get off a block and make it to the QB or RB in the Backfield..

I think that's why Mingo and Adams will be the most important. Both have the speed to make the tackle on Cam from the backside of the play when AUB's Oline goes to block the linebackers

That's what I'm seeing. Their OL starts with big splits AND gets a good push against the DL creating huge running lanes. That's what it looked like in the AU/Arky game and the game last night. I expect much better play out of the LSU D line.

Penetration is always good. Repeated penetration, over and over.

Were these the same coaches that taught you the 6-0-5 Bump and Run defense?
