At times watching Watson track down balls in the gap is amazing, but especially this season I remember him badly judging balls and even struggling somewhat. Am I missing something?

When he's healthy and focused, he gets a better first jump on outfield balls than I think I've seen in an LSU uniform.

We've had players that were faster. We've had players make more acrobatic catches. We've had players with better arms. But Watson, when he's on, is awesome at judging the ball off the bat, truly awesome.

ETA:

Hopefully he's back to form next year. We'll be winning a lot more games so I'm betting he'll be more motivated to go along with being healthier.

Jake Fraley is the best I have ever seen play at LSU at reading a ball off of a bat. He didn’t make the outstanding plays that others have made because he would just get to the correct spot.

Does running up and letting the ball sail over his head hurt his chances for this award?

Labas was a freshmen all american, lots of these awards are clearly given out by people who don't spend a whole season watching these guys like we did with Watson. He won it on reputation.

I don't know that I saw him lay out for more than 1 ball this year. Granted he gets to alot of them that most wouldn't, but still to win this award, or even be in consideration, I expect a few top 10 plays.

That oblique injury that Watson suffered earlier in the season, IMO affected him during this season. No excuses but Watson never really looked comfortable at the plate or himself in the OF. I believe Watson will be a monster player next season.

It really takes quite a while for an oblique injury to fully heal. That would be for you or me, not a big-time athlete who needs to turn (swing), run, dive, throw...
