I didn't bring this topic up, because the J.L./J.J. debate has been beaten to death here, but I knew eventually, someone would throw J.H. into the mix. Thankfully, I guess, it was a Bama fan.

You nail the distinction between the performances of J.L. and J.H.; and both raised major coaching issues. That aside, every team can rebound from a team's or individual's horrific performance in a game. When it stretches into a season long malady.... weaknesses in players and coaches begin to unravel, resulting in unpleasant and unforseen consequences.

J.L. needs a chance to regroup under the new coaching staff. To LSU's credit, and judging by the sheer number of J.L.'s supporters on this board, I think he'll get every opportunity to do just that.

May the best man win for QB, and may we have a 2d and 3d best ready to play if something else goes awry.

He's not getting a new coaching staff. Lee is a QB, and works almost exclusively with Crowton. The talk of Stud and McCarthy leaving has died down considerably. In fact, the offensive staff might remain completely intact, while every defensive coach could leave. (That would pretty much confirm that, at least Coach Miles thinks that the vast majority of problems for 2008 were on the defensive side of the ball. I can't say that seriously disagree.)

What I really meant is that J.L. needs the opportunity of a new season, without the baggage of last year, if he is to progress and live up to his potential. I didn't mean to imply that his offensive (no pun intended) coaches were to blame.

I was in Gulf Shores over Christmas and saw this on television. Hallman was such an idiot to not run the ball and play D. Auburn's offense had 18 total yards in that 2nd half. That's the game that cost him his job - thankfully. He wins that one and he likely finds a way to win 6 that year as opposed to 4 and that "magic" returns.

I hear you, and I understand what you're trying to say in this context. However, it's up to Jarrett on the whole "short memory" thing. QBs and CBs are the players who require the best selective memories in all of football. They need to be able to remember so much, yet forget the exact right things. I thought that Lee was doing that, but as the season wore on, it appears that it got to him, somewhat, shortly before the injury. I think he (and JJ for that matter) showed some flashes of greatness. Both ultimately played like gifted freshmen. It will be interesting to see their development, as well as Hatch's, once the young guns show up and start playing with the scout team.

Cheetah, Not to worry. Between Sheppard, Jefferson and Garrett, the QB spot will be one of the strongest in the SEC. As much as you would like to continue to see Lee, won't happen.

What you are missing is the fact the COACHES knew his weaknesses of passing over the middle and called the play anyway.

I seem to remember that all but one of JH's pick 6's were rebounds off of receivers who failed to catch the ball.
Lost in all of that is that even after Auburn had taken the lead, JH led LSU to a go-ahead fg and had the morons on the sideline and in the pressbox made the right decisons, this topic would never have seen the light of day.

Did Howard ever discuss that game in interviews? Any of the players? What the locker room was like after the game? It must have been tough for the defense to get behind him after that.
