re: Was last years coaching by Les Miles a fluke?

It really worried me last week how Les talked about how he thought the 4th quarter comeback against a fricking Sunbelt team was a sign the team had come together.
Huh? The 3 quarters before that weren't a sign of how bad the team has slid?
I kept thinking about how much arse his predecessor would have been chewing and getting things fixed instead of rejoicing over the comeback and thinking everything was peaches and cream.

Meaning, did Les Miles get extremely lucky, and end up looking like a lot better coach than he actually is?
Going 5 for 5 on fourth down vs. FL last year, WVU losing to Pitt. He had players who could execute last year and he was lucky.
I tend to lean towards; he isn't quite what we thought he was. Still above average coach, though.

Yes, it was a fluke. He does not seem really into it that much.

That's very true....I was impressed with JJ at QB, looks like he's got a bright future, and why all of a sudden is Toliver playing? He's our best reciever, and he's only seen real playing time in the last few games...Where was he at earlier in the year?

Quit comparing us to UF. We have been humilated in Tiger Stadium x 2, plus the loss to bama in TS, plus the Troy debacle in TS, plus the humiliation in the swamp.
Florida did not sink nearly as low as this Tiger team. Do y'all honestly think we are going to cruise past Arky and win our bowl game? We're looking at 5-6 losses. That's worse than any other defending NC in this era. Guys there are at least 50 or more Div I teams that can beat us right now. Do you think that was UF last year?
Do y'all want to be the next TN, ND, Nebraska and fall into a 5-10 year slump? We're standing on the fricking Titanic and half of you are dancing upstairs thinking it ain't gonna sink.
My god, Clemson has had top 10 recruiting classes. If you can't coach 'em, you won't win anything. There was more than a carryover of raw talent from the Saban era...there was a carryover of discipline and skill. It's gone now.
THANK YOU ZACK FOR ARTICULATELY EXPRESSING WHAT I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO ALL YEAR. THE TITANIC REFERENCE IS GREAT, AND UNFORTUNATELY VERY TRUE

We are dealing with the effects of having a star Junior QB kicked off the team. We are playing two QB's that should not have been playing until 2009, maybe 2010. The poor QB performance has led to lack of confidence throughout the entire program. This isn't Miles' fault. RP has set the program back a year.
Wow, common sense, that's hard to find around here, I totally agree with this, and throw in the Co-Dc's, as well that was just a bad move. Most I have seen before this year were saying 3-4 losses , it happened and now you all are bitching like little bitches, get over it, we will be fine the next few years.

Louisiana has the most loyal fans anywhere just look at the Saints and now LSU. Anyone who can't see us turning to a middle class team in the SEC with Miles as coach is lying to themselves. We were lucky not to be a .500 team last year. LSU last year avg. 100 yards a game in penalties so no doubt discipline was a major factor and the lack of discipline has carried over and will continue. This team has been unprepared all year. Mile imo he is a pitiful excuse for a coach.

All I know is this...
1)
last year we lost 2 games after having won 2 that we should have likely lost.
2)then because of OTHER teams we were thrown into the NC game with a team with limited passing attack and therefore we matched up well.
FWIW
can not disagree with that, but
how do you excuse the Defense ?

If by fluke you mean: poor in-game coaching decisions/omitted in-game adjustments balanced and compensated by extraordinary talent, as well as the most improbable final day of regular season football last year (thank you Zenon and Pitt).
As to recruiting...wealth begets wealth until those that inherit squander the riches. It's just a matter of time...the steel cutain built by Saban will be knocked down by the recruits seeking greener pastures in Arkansas, Miss, Bama, Florida, and Texas.

Chicken,
Good points but what have you got to say about the Defense??? Don't tell me they are tired due to our lack of offense. Defer every coin toss and they roll over us from the opening bell. His coaching is not good and the assistants must also be stinking it up. We won the MNC but how lucky were we last year in games, just to get in the MNC, and did we not lose to UK & Arky? Les is getting exposed and its showing. He should have had another QB the same year as RP or at least a red shirt Jr. in case RP failed and he did not and that is totally LM's fault...No Excuses!!!!

quote:This is exactly right. Some LSU and Bama idiots are to stupid to realize this. Do we need new direction on the defense?...YES, but with RP at QB we would be at worst 9-2 with wins over Bama and Ole Miss.

Maybe Les Miles could have cut out his Nice Guy act and put a foot in RP's arse and maybe RP would have come around. RP said it himself after he was let go that he never thought Les Miles would kick him off the team.
Maybe Les Miles did for all we know, we.....err, I never read/heard of any details of the punishment RP would receive when he would get suspended. What we do know is that he wouldn't practice with the team or workout with the team.
I was never a proponent of kicking RP off at the drop of a hat as some of our trigger happy fans were, I was a proponent of making his life a living hell until he quits or until he decides to march to the beat everyone else is marching to. That didn't happen.
That's on Les Miles. And this all goes back to recruiting. You have to be careful of the superstar prima donnas you take. You can't turn all of them around. We've won national titles with mature, selfless leaders at QB.
You have to evaluate character and intelligence when evaluating athletes. At some point people will realize that.
Les Miles decided to recruit him and Les Miles decided to let him go. There is enough blame to go around and Les Miles ain't above it.

I just don't see the logic in all of you folks saying how much you agree with this statement, but than you come right back and say the defense "needs new direction", or we need to fire the DC's...If you read the statement, you'll see that RP is being blamed for both the offensive & defensive problems this year.

damn some of you gumps are stupid. are you going to try to tell me how LSU isn't that much worse this year than they have been the last 5 because they've averaged 2.5 losses a season again?
