yes. he's the reason we had those great years under gerry.
plus the instate effect. it became ok for the great players to stay in state after that. which set up the teams of the early 2000s that turned the corner in the program.
yes nick won with them in a way that gerry never could. but he still gets credit for getting them in.

IMO:
Faulk: most important, possibly best back ever, deserving of getting #3 retired
Hester: the most clutch back, epitomized LSU and Miles' style of play, risky, rough, powerful
Alexander: the stat monster, Charles the Great, set all kinds of LSU and SEC records
Cannon: the legend, easily the most iconic LSU player, hopefully the only Heisman winner ever
Taylor: the power back, one of the greatest, if not the greatest LSU alum in pro ball
Cecil: probably the most talented to play at LSU, clearly never reached his potential
Toefield/DDavis/Addai/Vincent/Broussard: my homer picks, these guys were the RBs that I got to watch as a student, some great and memorable seasons with these backs.
This is too tough to pick one back out of all the greats. Not mentioning Stovall and Davis on that list was tough

So hard to put him above Hilliard and Alexander the Great, but he was fricking awesome. 1a, 1b and 1c.

I'd have to say, by far, Sammy Martin was the best.
I'm being sarcastic of course, but had to give some love to my boy Sammy.

I'd say he and Dalton Hilliard were 1 and 1A in no particular order. Faulk's performance in Tiger Stadium against Houston was one of the most phenomenal I've ever seen.
This. 21 carries for 246 yards, and 375 all-purpose yards. LSU was losing 34-14 in the fourth quarter, and the Tigers get 3 TD's (it would have been 4 but Rondell Mealey tripped and fell on a breakaway run) in the North Endzone to win 35-34 in one of the greatest games I've ever seen in Tiger Stadium.
Not only is Kevin Faulk the greatest running back in LSU history, he is the greatest PLAYER in LSU history.

Seriously, I can only read through a couple of pages of this rubbish! Faulk had one of the best careers EVER in a Tiger uniform, and went on to spend 11 seasons (thusfar) with the Patriots, becoming a pivotal cog in a championship NFL wheel!! Not to mention the fact that he got his degree, and didn't leave school early.
Cecil "the deisel" on the other hand, looked fabulous in the beginning. He came out of nowhere and would have been the prototypical every down, punishing back. BUT...he got into trouble early, and often. He lacked the stability to make it. You need more than a couple of great games to be considered the "best"
Some of you are ridiculous.

Probably the best single game performance by an offensive player (and maybe all players, all-time at LSU) at LSU. The only rival performance, in my lifetime, is the "I can't believe how open Josh Reed is getting" game against Bama.

Dalton Hilliard? Jerry Stovall?

Man, I don't see how you people aren't saying Justin Vincent. I mean, that SEC championship game and BCSNC game said it all. Best.Ever.
In my lifetime, Dalton and Kevin, no question.
Also, some of you should just stop watching and talking football... you are embarrassing yourselves.

You list Vincent, Brousard, Hester and Toefield and don't even talk about Dalton Hilliard. I'm not in any way a flamer, so take this as a serious question. Are you out of your mind?

No - these people are just too young, or they didn't start following LSU football until the 90s.

I'd go with Hilliard. Both were very versatile and could do it all. I just remember Hilliard putting Bama AA Cornelieus Bennett on his arse all day in pass protection. That put him just a tad ahead IMHO.

Dalton Hillard was way better.
