Really? I'd think their coach would know better.

I'm amazed at how you people look at dope smoking like its minor. Can it be minor? yes, but it can be a symptom of something very serious, even fatal. I know this from many years of experience in the field of addiction. I'm sure I'll get hammered by some of you experts for this post, but thats ok. I hope these kids are dealt with in an appropriate manner. If being kicked off the football team is what it takes to get the point across, then I'm all for it.

So they can't even practice?

I didn't know getting caught for smoking weed was such a bad thing. But I didn't think a bar fight was either and in a way they are trying to clean up the overal image of our football program. Damn the BRPD!

God damn! We don't need this now

I don't think this is smoke and mirrors, and it is certainly not an attention grab.

I think that Aleva is concerned the program is out of control. He sees Miles as a players' coach, which he is. I think this is a power play. Aleva is trying to assert institutional control. And who can blame him? We are on probation.

ALeva is trying to repair his own reputation - this is not the way to do it

Good gawd. Marijuana is not addictive, doesnt turn men into thieves and women into whores. It is almost IMPOSSIBLE to OD on. Alcohol is WAY worse. I was a addict for many years and smoking pot is harmless. If they tested positive or in possession of OxyContin or dilaudid, cocaine, crack or heroin then yeah, they need to sit a while. But pot? Bitch please.

Certainly his reputation is involved, in as much as he doesn't want to go down with a sinking ship.

Again, I don't think that is the primary reason he is doing this. I think this is a power play on the football program because we are on thin ice and this crap keeps happening.

If you get hammered it should be for doing what Martin and Alleva are allegedly doing.

Diagnosing from a distance. The idea that these 2 guys, who probably have had minimum contact with the players, and are more concerned with PR issues than doing the right thing, somehow will know what is the best course of action is laughable.

If a member of the Band or women's softball team were in this position, would they have to go through this? Does the student code of conduct come into play here? Just asking.

Unless it is something that NCAA would get involved in, ie UNC type situation he is confusing LSU with Duke.

It may not be right, but fans will be more upset with him over a bad football team with no discipline problems, than a good one with some issues.

While I don't necessarily disagree with what you're saying, it doesn't matter at this point because it is the 3 football players in trouble right now. Alleva certainly has the right to keep them suspended as long as he wants. Playing college football is a privilege. Agree with the rules or not, they clearly broke them. They consciously decided to negate the synthetic weed rule and got busted. I agree that there are 1000 worse things that could be done, but they have to live with the consequences.

Please expand on your theory of how this could be a symptom of something fatal. Really, I am curious. I mean, that is one hell of a stretch.
