Vintage LSU sports jerseys and clothes - trying to figure out if this is LSU

Estate sale find today. This massive thing is wool, made by Spalding, and weighs nearly 4 lbs. it looks purple in some light, maroon in other lights

I’m thinking football because it is massive, probably a 4x in today’s sizes, plus it is split down one side (manufactured), probably to make it easier to slip over pads
