I think so as well, the threat of him hitting bottom wasn't enough for him. He had to really be punished before he straightened up.

Is this what happened, because I dont think that information has been officially released to anyone.

Also TM7 surely knows this and has been advised accordingly.

There are two things you can pretty much reason.

One, the cloud of secrecy pretty much promises that we are talking about substance abuse here.

And two, the fact that he has practiced all offseason and the coaches talked about him playing only a week ago means that he hasn't failed a third test prior.

I agree with that. The one game suspension would have been kept hushed had it not been leaked from inside so it's not like he was really worried. He figured he had a few more screw ups, especially as a star player. Now that he's seen that they can and will get rid of him, he's hopefully been humbled a bit.

IMO people/reporters are too hung up on the "drug policy."

I'm pretty sure Miles can kick a player off the team for one drug offense if he wishes and conversely keep a player on the team with 5+ drug offenses if alleva consents.

In either case, LSU's student athlete drug policy is no federal/state law or a "contract" enforceable in court. It's just a guideline and is probably fairly flexible depending on the circumstances.

I just know its a fact that he and his family indeed reached out to les and co. to get him back in school and take the year suspension route. If it doesn't work it's because alleva didn't allow it to

It's actually not flexible at all. The NCAA oversees the enforcement of the stated substance policies. At the same time, the policies do state that a player must be reinstated after failures. So if LSU wants to be MORE strict, they do not have to re-instate. They can not turn away from failed drug tests without severe shadiness or severe penalty.

This would make sense if it were the same drug policy around the SEC. But it isn't. It wasn't an NCAA test as far as we have surmised. Only a School test. If it was an NCAA test this story would be over cut and dry

So it's possible that this was only the 3rd failed test?

(and even though the policy calls for one year, LSU was trying to be more strict and go permanent?)

I guess my confusion is on what step we're at in the LSU drug policy, if they are even following that at all? To me, it seems like they are not really following the policy word-for-word.

We don't know that to be true. I think smart money is still on all of the LSU powers that be just assumed he would leave and not sit out.

Scholarships are renewed on an annual basis. I may be wrong but I think he can kick anyone off at anytime time. It may get appealed though...
