It's not like they are going to come out and say that he can return before it becomes official. I'm not saying I think he will stay, just don't buy them quoting the compliance officer. He doesn't have the authority to say any different that exactly what he said

I agree. I don't see how they wouldn't at the very least entertain the option. I don't buy all the talk that what was said on Friday was the last word. Things change, maybe they were expecting him to leave and he changed his mind?

It looks like that's what he's thinking as opposed to Div II. The question is whether or not he will be back at LSU. If Allleva says no, I wouldn't blame the kid for going to Bama.
