Our defense is good...maybe even great, but those of you who think Tyrone Mathiue will tackle Mr. Newton solo are sadly mistaken.
Troof.

You're drunk, get Cam's winky out of your mouth. Geez ! MS St and Clemson significantly limited Newton and neither of those Ds can play with LSUs D.
Newton will see team speed this weekend that he has NEVER seen.

Every week with this shite from someone. Damn good thing we're not playing.

Myself, I certainly think that Newton can steal a laptop as well as anybody out there.
Im not underestimating anything.

If we can run the ball effectively Mr newton can watch the game from the side lines. Win the time of possession, win the game.

While I don't think anybody underestimates Newton, I must point this out:
Chris Relf (Mississippi State): 6'4", 240 lbs.
Cam Newton (Auburn): 6'6", 250 lbs.
Purely on size, Newton is 2 inches taller and 10 lbs. heavier. I have no idea of each QBs pure strength. See Exhibit A and tell me if you think Mathieu can bring Newton down. I'm not saying it's definite, but don't discount it.

This is what was said on Rivals radio the other day and I agree.

The OP questioned Mathieu's ability to bring Newton down solo. I pointed out that Mathieu brought down a QB of comparable size. I agree it is different, but don't discount Mathieu's ability to tackle anybody. I've seen all of LSU's DBs make solo tackles on RBs this year.

I figured Newton would be one of the top three QBs in the SEC this season, behind McElroy and Brantley (
) ... anyway, I'm not underestimating him.

mass x velocity = energy. ... whichever guy has the higher velocity will win the match most every time. TM will be moving faster than Newton on every play...he can handle him with no problem

I hear Cam Newton is ten feet tall and shoots thunderbolts out his arse

Those aren't thunderbolts, those are thank-you notes from chizik that were left over after the brown-nosing sessions.

In terms of pure athletic ability, Cam is superior to Tebow. But no college athlete that I have seen matches the leadership ability of Tebow. Tebow made the team as a whole play to their potential if not above their potential.
Cam can perform. No doubt. But can he lead? That will be tested Saturday night.

I don't think Chavis and this defense are underestimating Newton at all. And you're right...he's not anywhere near Tebow, however, he does have a better throwing motion, throws a much nicer ball but I don't think he has the same determination. It'll be a while before we see another "Tebow type" come along.
I don't think I've seen Newton take a hard hit yet. Then again, I haven't watched all their games. I did watch the Arky game and it didn't appear that anyone could lay a solid stick on him. LSU's D is much much better than Arky's and I have no doubt that Newton will be on the receiving end of a few solid hits. Be it from Nevis, Shepp, Mathieu, Baker, Mingo...etc. One of these guys will him him early and hit him hard and he'll know he's in for a long day. I have no doubt that he will break free a time or two but he won't put up the kind of numbers against LSU that he did against Arky.
The key for all of this is crisp tackling and everyone flowing to the ball. LSU's D is exceptional at this.

I like Mingo's chances best v Newton. Mingo is 6'5" and somewhere around 240 with LBer speed. I'd like to see him play more this week than he has in previous weeks. I think he is one of the only DE's who can track down Cam if he breaks contain.
