re: ULL Basketball Coach Providing Locker Room Material

I suspect he is trying to fire up his team moreso that speak ill of LSU. ULL won their conference and had a great year. The unfortunate thing is NONE of that matters if you don't win your conf. tournament. A Sun Belt team can literally lose every single game leading up to the conf. tournament and get hot for four days in March and make the NCAAT. Conversely, a Sun Belt team could go undefeated and have one loss ruin their season.
I'm sure ULL is deflated after not making the NCAAT. When that was a realistic goal all season, it's hard to care about the NIT. Marlin is trying to give his guys something to play for.
LSU is in the unique position where the NIT doesn't completely feel like a meaningless consolation prize. Many of the teams competing either feel they should be in the NCAAT (USC, Notre Dame, St. Mary's, etc); Had NCAAT goals to start the season (Baylor, Miss. St., etc), or were mid-major conf. champions who unfortunately were upset in their conf. tournaments.
The overwhelming majority of teams in the field aren't necessarily "excited" about being in the NIT. In fact, I would be 85% of the players would candidly tell you they don't want to be here. While I'm not saying LSU is overwhelmingly exicited, they certainly are more happy to be here than most. In many ways, they are a lot like last season's NIT champs, TCU. Jaime Dixon took over a losing program under Trent Johnson and started to build it up. The NIT was a nice first step for a TCU program that is now in the NCAAT. Hopefully LSU can do the same.

UL has been trying to schedule a home and home or even 1 game with them over the last few years, and LSU has declined.
Will Wade has been here only 1 year. I’m sure after he realizes how easy ULL is to beat...we will see them scheduled quite often. Be patient

Nothing to gain by playing those a-holes. No need to do them any favors. They're obnoxious and they smell bad. Keep them away from Baton Rouge please and thanks
The pollutants from the refineries in BR have obviously impaired your olfactory sense

I think you reading too far about what he's saying. He's not talking down LsU. He saying they were probably more motivated to play in the Ncaa tourney and not playing an in state school in the nit

LSU just needs to show up and kick their arse. Plain and simple. I get that all of the time with them hard headed USL fans. They just can't understand that.
Posted on 3/12/18 at 3:14 pm to ArcticFox
I’m not going to fault USL’s coach for saying this. He’s simply reminding his team who they are and that no one gives them a second thought. Because they’re USL.

Why play them in baseball if that's the case?
Posted on 3/12/18 at 3:47 pm to Kracka
I don't know. I don't see any value in doing that either. They're not worth our time.

Completely different situation

Play more games in baseball
Limited midweek teams available
Their baseball program is well above their basketball program
They actually agree to play at our place without a home and home every time

They don't want to (schedule) us. They probably didn't really want to play this one, to be honest with you
Its an accurate statement
1. LSU has nothing to gain playing in state schools
2. In state schools have nothing to lose playing LSU
3. ULL has a bad case of short man's syndrome and beating LSU in anything is orgasmic

That's a dumb and classless statement for a head coach to make prior to a game.

That's not a valid argument. We play much worse programs in basketball and there are over 30 games in any given season. Football has limited amounts of games and you play far worse teams there.
UL has apparently tried home and homes, and games at LSU, but the basketball program has declined. It's not like they aren't trying. But hey, LSU continue to schedule Louisiana College.

if lsu needs locker room material,
they're in trouble from the start
