I agree 3rd down conversion is important and I did not dismiss it.

right, I completely forgot you can only convert on 3rd downs and the plays run before the bad calls that did not get enough yds for a first are also the ref's fault.

That's not that hard to understand chief, I don't know what you are
ing about.
The 2nd statement there does not negate the first.
Converting on 3rd downs is important, but it is not the only opportunities in the game.
Look at the video some one linked the PI on Lafell in the EZ, it was 3rd and 10. Unless you are playing a John Chavis defense, the chances of converting on 3rd and 10 are small. What happened on those other plays? Why didn't we get any yds on 1st or 2nd down? Do you disagree that there is a better chance of converting on 3rd and 2? Also why are we throwing all the way in the EZ on 3rd and 10? It is smarter on 3rd down to just get the 1st.

why didn't the ref do his job and call an obvious and blatant P.I. right in front of his face? Why did the SEC come out and defend the refs after the game. There were over 10 huge blown calls in the game. How do you call holding on a play where it clearly didn't happen? The refs jobs are to SEE penalties, not throw flags for things they think they see

what ev, he did not hang on to the ball that's on Hester, not the ref.
Hester caught the ball and fumbled it out of bounds. It would have been a first down. The ruling on the field was that the catch was made. The refs overturned the ruleing on the field and prevented LSU from getting a 1st down on Auburns 32 yardline.
I'm guessing you wouldnt be concerned (for example) if the ground caused a fumble but the other team picked it up and ran it in from 60 yards. Guess we should be more angry with the player than a ref making bad calls and causing us points.

Never said it was.
You cannot argue however, that there is a more important down than 3rd. You cannot sustain long drives without converting them. And when the refs blow calls at the end of drives that prevent 3rd down convertions, it makes a BIG difference. I've already posted the fact that 7 out of 10 drives stalled in Auburn territory.
A majority of those blown calls would have given LSU a fresh set of downs within 5-10 yards of field goal range. You dont think that made a differnce?
Hesters overturned reception on the Auburn 32 for a 1st down wasnt HUGE in the first half?
mmmmmk, I guess we shall just agree to disagree.
