The Group of 5 conferences (smaller colleges just a notch above Division II) get two Participation Trophies in the football playoff so that they won't go to congress and request legislation to dismantle the NCAA's football playoff structure or sue over the anti-trust structure of the NCAA.

I like it, because the arrangement dissuades more consolidation of super conferences, and it incentivizes strong teams to join other conferences. I think the SEC is too big. I’d prefer it to split into 2 conferences that play each other more, and then it would eliminate one of the weaker conferences from the playoffs in most years.

The American is a top 4 conference this year. James Madison will get the G5 slot.

Just so I am not confused, Tulane is ranked in the top 12? Because if it was the 12 best teams then the top 12 ranked teams would get in, correct? Otherwise it is a pity bid. Congratulations

Tulane lost to Ole Miss 45-10. I am not comparing them to us. We should compare ourselves to teams that earned a spot in the playoff, not the charity spot.
