I'm pretty sure didier won't be back either, along with one of the back up catchers

He occasionally played in the outfield in late innings at the beginning of the season
Chad Jones was supposed to be part of the fastest outfield in college baseball (Jared Mitchell, Leon Landry, and Chad Jones). His hitting potential never came out because he wasn't a full time baseball player.
Chad Jones was never a pitcher at LSU until after Spring football ended during his sophomore year. LSU's bullpen needed help, and Chad told the coaches that he could pitch. They watched him in the bullpen, then let him pitch to some hitters in practice, then threw him into a key SEC game with Auburn with the bases loaded and one out.
Anyway, my point is that I wouldn't give up on Spencer Ware yet.

Pretty sure they had an idea he could pitch from the get go. He was drafted out of high school. Perhaps as just an outfielder, but being left-handed with the stuff he had does get noticed.

I can't believe I have to link this stuff for Russian. Where have you been since April? This is not new.

That day, LSU head coach Paul Mainieri admitted to a gathering of the media that the 2011 team simply isn’t as talented as Tiger teams past.
“I hate to talk about it before the season is over but quite frankly, yes,” Mainieri said, when asked if the team’s struggles were due to a lack of talent. “I think we don’t have the personnel we’ve become accustomed to the last couple of years.”
“Guys are trying the very best they can. They all have their moments, and we’re playing the guys we think give us the best chance,” he said. “But we need to hit the recruiting path pretty hard and try to upgrade in some areas.”
He also took blame for the apparent talent deficiency, admitting he might have misevaluated some recruits and pursued others who were unattainable.
“We lost some kids we thought we would have and maybe some kids in there right now have had to move up the food chain in terms of what we’re expecting. Maybe we’re asking some kids to do things they aren’t capable of doing. It’s not their fault; they’re doing the very best they can.”

Mainieri said poor recruiting has been an issue. To that end, he will go on the road to reassure next season's incoming recruits over the next two days with no midweek game and players in exams this week.
"That's part of it; but who's fault is that?" he asked. "That's my fault. I'm not going to blame it on the kids. Those are the kids we recruited here, the kids I believed could do it.

Where did he blame it on Grewe? He said it was his fault. He also said part of it was having to play players before they had a chance to mature.
I can't believe I have to point out to you what is so obviously contradictory between what you said Mainieri said and what he actually said in a link which YOU provide.
I accept your apology if you're man enough to offer it.....

we have about four or five LSU baseball "experts" running around here, russian .. you really need to shut up and listen .. we all might learn something !!!!!!!!!!

You're right, rag. I really don't know why I even try. Some of these posters are functionally illiterate.

it is just that they want to argue everything and they argue so much that they meet themselves coming around corner with an argument and pretty soon they contradict the shite out of themselves ..

Well let's see, Grewe just got fired.
quote:
He said it was his fault.
As in, "I'm the head guy, it's my job to fix it." However, I read the Advocate this morning and I didn't see where Paul Mainieri fired himself. So apparently, someone else is getting the blame for the lack of talent.
quote:
He also said part of it was having to play players before they had a chance to mature.
Because of the lack of hitting talent in the 2009 and 2010 classes.
Also, just like everyone else on the Rant, I talk to people on the inside. And it was well known back in late April when Javi started going on recruiting trips and missing games that Grewe was out as RECRUITING COORDINATOR/pitching coach.

I accept your apology if you're man enough to offer it.....
Likewise.

I didn't think you'd man up based on your posting history.
You have "inside" info, huh?

I knew you'd get a kick out of that comment. But it is true, people inside the program knew that Grewe was gone after the Vanderbilt sweep.
But logically piece together all of the info. Paul Mainieri was admitting to reporters in late April that the 2011 LSU baseball team was lacking quaility talent. He fired the recruiting coordinator. I guess you are arguing that he is firing the pitching coach, but our pitching was better than our hitting this year and he has kept the hitting coach and in fact, given him more responsibility as a recruiter. That all adds up very easily to, "Grewe was fired because of the talent, which he was responsible for."

So true. Rag, all must acknowledge that you never back down or change positions in your arguments, no matter how untenable they may be!

Right, and how many games did Paul Mainieri coach in the 3rd base box until this year? That all started when he sent Javi out recruiting in late April and kept Grewe at home in the dugout.

Chad Jones = 13th Round pick out of high school and only because a lot of teams knew he wanted to play football at LSU. He was predicted in the top 5 rounds in 2007.
Spencer Ware = Undrafted
Are we done yet?

javi sanchez has been recruiting all season .. are people denying this ?
