You don't "spy" a RB.
you should if you've watched Bama film. about 85% of their passing plays are WR/RB screens or dumps to the RB. If we put a spy on TR, they may not have scored at all.

Football is a game of blocking and tackling. You can't fault Richardson for LSU's ability to neutralize Alabama's blocking. You should recognize that he got most of his yardage because of his ability to avoid being tackled, even on some of the short gains. And his ability to avoid being tackled is what makes him a special player. That is why the eyeball test is often more valuable than the statistical test, and the eyeball test revealed he was clearly the best offensive player on the field.
And that makes LSU's defensive performance all the more impressive. They shut down the best player in the game.

Agreed. And, that's all I was trying to point out. It is extremely impressive what our D did.

That dude is a beast. Great combination of Speed, size, strengh, and runs hard every play.
He is as good as it gets!!!
On another note did you see when Eric Reed came up and laid the wood to him in the first quarter?

I've shown respect.

Trent is a beast, but I think it is interesting how everyone seems to be either ignoring or minimizing LSUs 148 yards rushing against a Bama D that had been allowing just over 50/game prior.

After watching the game I promise you saban will be sick to his stomach that he didn't give TR more carries

It's not hard to make a catch on a flat trajectory ball with no defender within 10 yards. The one time we actually covered him out of the backfield in overtime, AJ had difficulty dropping the ball in over the LB's head and Richardson looked awkward trying to catch an over the shoulder ball.
What are yall are failing to look at was his total production

Our D-line depth made a big dfference in the 2nd half in stopping TR. It is the second half where it is difficult to endure the persistence LSU D-line rotation. TR is a stud though.

meh. he gained significant yardage on just 5 of his 23 carries. He had 3 carries of negative yards (-6, -5, -4), 2 carries of zero yards, 3 carries of 1 yard, 6 carries of 2 yards, 1 carry of 3 yards, and 3 carries of 4 yards.
Sure, he had 80 yards receiving out of the backfield and broke a couple of runs. But, for all but 5 carries, we shut him down. That's extremely impressive. I'm not sure that Saban will review film and see many more yards that TR could have gotten.

He IS the offense for UAT. Take his numbers out and you have basically nothing.

I saw a pre game interview of him. When asked when was the last time he was brought down by one man he snickered and said he couldn't remember. I think it'll be easier to answer when asked next time.

it happened multiple times. He might have to carry a notebook to remember the players' names.

Before the game I thought we was being hyped up,
Not me. He is a truly special back...much better than Ingram who was a special back.
We blew two assignments against him in the passing game and generally shut him down outside of 4-5 runs in which he just did what he does. Against any other defense (Alabama's included), TR probably scores on one of his receptions and two of his runs and averages 5+ per carry outside of the big runs.
One of those guys you can't stop but can only hope to contain...and our D did a hell of a job at that.

What I didn't understand was how and why he getting so wide opened on passes?
Posted on 11/7/11 at 11:14 am to Poodlebrain
Actually statistically overall TR had a pretty good game. 89 yds rushing, 80 yds receiving. He IS the bama offense. They got the ball in his hands a lot and was the best player on the field. Still LSU won the game and by late 4th qtr and overtime had just about neutralized him.

Bingo. I saw numerous examples of where LSU fans tried pointing this out to Bama fans before the game. LSU fans pointed out that having 4-5 capable backs is better than that one elite back, predicting that Trent would get less than 100 yards rushing, and expecting LSU to have success running the ball against a great bama run defense. Bama fans thought these notions were riduculous.
