It hasnt, it only "ruined" college sports for fans that don't like seeing a player transfer or make money. There could be some more regulations, sure

You got me. I'm a white guy who never played college ball. That's the funnier of the 2 jokes you made by the way.

Neither did I, I just think its funny how fans feel that the players owe them, and the whole sport is ruined now that they have more control

But I did and I'm not white. That's why I thought it was funny.

Even as a former player, I think fans are owed something. Without the fans, we don't/didn't get to play a kid's game and get paid to do so. NIL doesn't exist without the fans because name, image, and likeness would mean nothing. It never bothers me when fans that never played the game are demanding. The fans own the game.

ETA: Doesn't make them right, but they have the right to complain.

It's one thing to be demanding as a fan but its another thing to think their decisions have to be based on the fans. Having demands for performance is different than thinking they have to play in a bowl game or stay at your school if it isn't in their best interest.

You're honestly going to say as a former player you would choose what's best for some fans over what's best for you? I'd call BS on that one.

ETA: I'm not even talking about major contributors to NIL. They would have more of a right to complain than the people that aren't.

Of course not. My point is that fans (even those who are not NIL contributors) have every right to complain if they feel the game they love is changing in a negative way. Hell, even as an ex-player who almost always sides on the player interest side, I still don't like top players opting out or transferring. As a fan, I think it hurts the game. I get it from the player standpoint, and so do most fans. Doesn't mean we have to like it.

Just to be clear, I was no stud player and NIL probably wouldn't have changed my life. I walked on at LSU and just as I was earning some respect, I was ran off by a newly hired coach. I transferred elsewhere and earned a scholarship. I even earned an UDFA contract and was a tackling dummy with the Chargers for a few years. I never got rich playing ball, but I had a hell of a good time, got a few years of college paid for and made a few bucks while playing a game. It beat the hell out of the rest of my career as a CPA. None of that is possible without the average Joe fan, so I always respected the fans even when they were wrong or being negative.

Overall I agree they have a right to complain when they feel the game is changing in a negative way. I'd be lying if I said It doesnt suck watching your players transfer. But everyone loves when a player from Louisiana transfers BACK and that wouldnt be possible without the portal. Think about how horrible this year would have been without transfers? It just goes both ways. Like you said it may actually hurt the game in some aspects like the opting out but who would I be to say they should risk injury if they feel its whats best for their future?
