Stad Rat - I'm with ya on that one. Used to be the opposing team ALWAYS came onto the field first and were immediately, loudly and continuously greeted with TIGER BAIT until the Tigers burst forth from the North Endzone. That was uniquely LSU!

Sometime in the early 80's LSU started the "Courtesy is Contagious" campaign and it's my opinion that caused its eventual death.

BTW, that darker gold in your pic looks better than the current gold IMO too.

I like the darker or more mustardy gold better as well. We had that color gold when i was at LSU in the 80's. When did we change to the brighter gold?

This, mustard gold pants with the old "purple-white-purple" stripes, and freshman beanies.

We still have my grandfather's old purple and gold one (not the picture), and my friend who went to Georgia Tech (class of 07) got one.

For the students...panty raids.

I went on the last one...they were always the Thursday night before a home game. I went before the Colorado game in '74, my freshman year. I got 5 pair of panties...the girls would go buy cheap pairs and put their phone numbers on them. I got one pair about a yard wide with the name and number of every girl at one building of Power (was a girls' dorm that year).

I think that would be something easily started again by a td.com facebook group.

All you would have to do is start a facebook group titled "tigerbait the opposing team when they come on the field" and I guarantee you it would be rekindled.

Back in the McClendon days, every so often, a 4th Down and Short situation would arise that would cause the fans to start chanting "Geaux, Geaux, Geaux, Geaux"! And every so often McClendon would bow to the fans desires and geaux for it.

Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. BUT IT ALWAYS fired up the fans, fired up the team and let them know we have faith in them. Coach Miles seems the type that would "gamble" on this long lost tradition.

What do you mean? He actually bowed, or otherwise I don't see a distinction between then and now

The drums used to do a cadence where the cheerleaders would cheer Go (da da da da da),Go (da da da da da), Go (da da da da da), Go Big Tigers! Go (repeats) and then the cadence would change and we would yell go (with a echo of go ahead). This was back in the 80's if any of y'all remember, along with the tequila drum cadence that Tiger Band used to do (not the song).

I don't think the sleeve length matters. I think it's because the fabric changes to an elastic fabric under the arm.

Just about every college and pro team that uses the vertical shoulder stripes (UCLA shoulder inserts) now have the shorter stripes. If you take a look at older photos of LSU jerseys you'll see a lot of baggy-bunched up material in the area where the stripes wrapped down under the arm. All that loose material not only looked bad, but it made it easier for a DL, LB or DB to "Grab On" to the jersey. Jersey manufacturers made the change at the request of equipment managers. They wanted the jersey's as tight as possible in the shoulder/sleeve area to prevent all the grabbing and locking on. Hence, they shortened the verical shoulder stripes. At least that's what former LSU EM Jeff Boss told me many years ago.

The jersey's we wore during the Saban years had shoulder stripes that were even shorter and fit tighter than the current ones.

Don't know why none of the jersey manufacturers (Nike,Adidas,Russell,UnderArmour,Reebok) can't make a jersey with a 360 vertical shoulder stripe that not only looks good but is "efficient" on the field, without all the loose baggy material. Doesn't seem that it would be too hard to do, but apparently none can. Hell, they can't even make a jersey that will stay tucked in to the pants. .........

hell in the late 90s the lineman just had a little strip of a stipe on top of the shoulder...
and I have seen equipment from the 50s that was the same gold as we use now. Different material obviously, but the same color. I mean our uniforms look different on CBS compared to ESPN

The gold color has definitely changed. I think it happened in the mid 70's, about the same time as the last helmet change (adding the LSU).

It used to be "old gold", now it is "canary yellow". I think those are the actual names.

No, old gold is the more "copperish" gold, like the Saints or Univ. of Washington. I just think we could stand to make our gold less shiny yellow and more muted, if anything.

1974 (dad's freshman year):

Today:

I can't really get it in a still photo, but when the lights hit it our current pants "shine"...I prefer the old "muted" color that more resembled a mustard yellow.
