You can see what pairings would look like with current rankings if 12 team playoff was in this year. They say #12 Oklahoma and #13 would be first teams out (didn’t make it). How could Oklahoma at #12 be out?

SMU would be in, right? As conference champ?

Just look at the NY6 bowls
#23 Liberty would be in for winning their conference

6 highest ranked conference champs I believe. So Liberty over SMU

You can’t necessarily use this year’s ranking to see what the pairings would be like. Next year the committee will evaluate teams 1-14 much deeper than they did this year. Their full evaluation stopped at #6 I’m assuming this year. Rankings beyond that didn’t make much difference this year.

The committee will have a lot more work to do next year.

It will matter less though.

Top 4 will matter for the 1st round byes, but the final rankings #10-14 won’t matter much. Sure, teams will want to make the playoff, but I’ll be surprised if any team outside the top 8 ever wins a natty.

Plus the top 4 have to be conference champs which somewhat limits shenanigans.

If you get 5 instead of 4 next year, at least you get a home game.

If you get 13 instead of 12, you shouldn't have lost to ________.

Never mind. It’s not the top ranked 1-12 teams. It’s not the 12 best teams. It’s conference champs and other discretionary bs.

11 FBS + 1 FCS.

Better finish Top 10 in rankings for making the playoffs.

Great, let's give these old bozos more. We need to base this on more concrete things and not a committee. Frauds

Most people still don't understand this either. They assume the top 12 go...

Gonna make for some good arguments next year.
