If anything I put Reid at 3rd just because I know he will work the count.

know this board is in love with Reid, but he is batting 246 for the year. He was about 320 halfway through. That means he’s around the Mendoza line since. And he’s worse against lefties! Hughes is every bit as good as Reid against lefties (both are almost auto-outs), and he is better on defense. If the choice is between those two you go with Hughes until the lefty leaves the game. But hopefully there is another choice.

This is just completely wrong

Another way to look at your argument is that Reid was well above .320 for the first half of the season.

Give me a guy who I know has at least had a successful stretch in the past. Hughes has been playing for 2 straight years and he hasn’t done ANYTHING at the plate. And worst of all, he can’t even get productive outs or work a count.

Reid atleast pressures the pitcher to throw strikes. You could get Hughes out with your eyes closed.

The irrational hate that some of yall have for Hughes has yall seeing things that aren't there.

I'm not saying he should start over Reid today but to say he's not that great defensively when he's been our best fielding 3rd baseman in the last 5 or 6 years doesn't make sense.

And his ability to work a count comes and goes the same as any other player on the team. He saw 7 pitches per plate appearance yesterday against the best pitching we've seen so far in the tournament. But the first two games he saw less than 3 pitches per plate appearance.

The reality is that Hughes, Reid, Broussard, and Dugas are all imperfect options. Broussard is a lock right now because he's seeing the ball well and he's made some very good plays defensively to offset his errors. Dugas is slumping and defensively the game hasn't slowed down for him yet, so that takes him off the table as an option.

TBH, I kind of like starting Hal at 3rd given that their offensive production right now is so similar but Reid's definitely a better pinch hitter. Hal's defense is also better, but Reid has improved since his freshman year.

Nothing is as extreme as some you want to make it out to be. And just like Reid shouldn't have been cut this past offseason, there is no reason to for Hughes to be pushed out either.

First, I don’t hate the guy. I hope he figures it out.

Second, irrational suggests that there isn’t any evidence to support the claim. That’s just absurd. He is clearly our worst hitter. And I don’t think the slight advantage his glove has over Reid is worth the automatic out at the plate.

It’s a matter of opinion. To say it’s irrational is, well, irrational I would say

In other words...

The gap between his glove and Reid’s

IS LESS THAN

The gap between his bat and Reid’s

In a game where scoring may be important, he needs to see the bench. If we think it may be a pitchers duel I can see your point

Ginn is a righty. He’s also been on a pitch count due to soreness. Work the count. He’s a good competitor but he’s a freshman and can be rattled.

When is "scoring" not important??

In the immortal words of Jim Hawthorne, "Runs are important in baseball."

You have perfected the art of being a douchebag. Figured it wouldn’t take you long to get here and downvote me.

Tell me what was unreasonable about what I said. I was trying to give the guy some credit, he has a valid argument in certain situations, just not the situation we face tonight

Stop being such a sensitive Sally.

I have no idea why you think my comment referred to your post being "unreasonable."

It's pretty obvious that saying "in a game where scoring may be important" is simply stupid.

If you don't think it's stupid then answer my question, when is scoring NOT important in a game?

If scoring is always priority number 1 then why is Hughes ever in the game arsehole?

He is the least likely player on the team to contribute to getting a run across the plate. You going to dispute that?

There are certain games where strong defense may be the top priority and there are some games where offensive firepower is the top priority. You know that. So let’s just be honest, you wanted to pick a fight

So have you now amended your original term from "important" to "top priority"?

I hope you realize those two words/phrases do not mean the same thing. Something can be "important" but not be the "top priority."

Please explain how one "fights" on a message board.

You really are a sensitive Sally if you believe disagreements on a message board is the equivalent of a fight.

You called me out randomly last night in the game thread for correctly stating a game situation. You have a problem

You still upset that I don’t give a frick or respect you because you have grandstand seats and Paul asked you to buy a plaque once?

Go get fricked, loser

There is a thread a few below this that says

Projected line up...what you got? Posted by GeauxTime9 on 5/24/19 at 9:51 am We need runs boys...

So tell me why you didn’t jump all over that?

No one hates the kid. We all want him to be great, he just isnt'.

Reid has started 40 games, Hughes 37. Reid has 6 errors, Hughes has 5.
Tell me again how much better a fielder Hughes is again with his below .200 batting average?

I didn't call you out and it wasn't last night.

It was in the Miss St game two nights ago. And the game situation you posted was incorrect.

You were displaying what Saban called the Catastrophe Syndrome when he coached at LSU by continuing to harp on the play when Duplantis tried to sac bunt over Josh Smith in the 9th inning and popped out to the pitcher instead.

You referred to it as "that horrible bunt call..."

Then you posted:
quote:

We had 1 out with runners on first and second. Dups popped the bunt first
All I wrote replying to your post was "Wrong."

That's NOT calling you out. At least that doesn't call out a "normal" poster who isn't as thin skinned as you are.

We had only one runner on base (Josh Smith) and there were no outs when Duplantis tried to bunt Smith over and popped out to the pitcher instead.

I thought it was the right call considering it was the top of the 9th and the score was tied. It was bad execution by Duplantis.

After Dups popped out, Beloso walked to give us runners on first and second. Then Cabrera struck out and Watson hit into a fielder's choice forcing Beloso out at second base.

quote:

I don’t give a frick or respect you because you have grandstand seats and Paul asked you to buy a plaque once?

On the contrary, apparently that means a WHOLE lot more to you than it does to me.

Mainieri asked hundreds of baseball donors, not just me, to donate to raise the money he needed to build the new workout facility next to the batting cage building. And as I already explained to you, I declined to donate. I don't understand why you continue to make a big deal out of me NOT donating to build the new weight room and workout facility. That's some kind of f'ed up.....

I was responding to another post that was incorrect...

quote:

Absolutely pathetic. Runners on 1 and 2 with no outs and we do nothing. Guy is throwing almost nothing but curves and we're falling for it

I was correcting the guy because we had 1 out when there were 2 runners on. Dups popped the bunt first (before beloso got on)

All you saw was my name and wanted to attack. You are a weird little frick that doesn’t have anything better to do. Considering the fact that you have grandstand tickets and Paul actually thought you could donate some money I’m going to guess you are in your late 40s to early 50s.

Pathetic

You really need to get over yourself. I rarely reply to you.

In fact, I just checked yours and my posting history and since the SEC tournament started on Tuesday I've replied to you in a grand total of TWO THREADS....this one and the Mississippi State game thread Wednesday night.

You just want to blow out of proportion every reply I make to you to be some type of personal injustice. Grow up, snowflake, and stop .
