Brute Strength PodcastFor any who may be interested in strength and conditioning this is an enjoyable podcast. There was a little talk in regards to the change between Miles and O in the philosophy of the S&C programming after the change

Lsu has really gotten pushed around the last few years. Something isn't working.

Tommy brought that up during the podcast...saying we were recruiting smaller players due to the emergence of the spread...they were taking more time to develop..also not recruiting the O/D line well

Poor line depth has been the biggest issue.

I feel like we should have taken a look at our scheme versus recruiting smaller players. It seems like Miles realized that a little too late since he went after a 3-4 specialist in Dave Aranda vs. the 4-3 with tiny linebackers we were running with Chavis

You're giving Miles far too much credit for recognizing anything. Miles is still oblivious to what went wrong.

Whatever Moffit used to do when Saban was here is what he needs to go back to.

That’s basically what he said they were doing in the podcast. The interviewer stated at LSU you start with Ferrari’s while at other schools you don’t and moffit said that we hadn’t had Ferrari’s along the o and d lines in a few years in terms of size and strength.

He stated that Chavis wanted smaller, faster linemen and backers to compete with the spread and that o line recruiting dropped off. I’m actually shocked he admitted the drop off of incoming talent.

One thing I noticed about last years recruiting class and the players getting recruited this year are everyone with a lineman designation is monstrous. They all appear to be over 6’ 3” and most all are north of 300 with some guys in the high 200’s.

Last years class was full of gigantic people. Hopefully this translates to physical strength and wins

It's episode 80. You can listen to it on itunes, or a podcast app on your phone. This link works as well:

Maybe Tommy Moffitt will make a comeback, but his 15 years have been a roller-coaster.

I know that Miles did not give him the full support you'd expect from a HC, or so it seemed.

We did make it to 3 NC games and won 2.

I think that two of Moffitt's sons are in sports at LSU and they are part of the program, undoubtedly motivating him to up his game.

I know that Moffitt had a "health crisis" of some sort and this interrupted his ability to be totally on top of the S&C Conditioning Programs at LSU.

I have seen inconsistency and struggles with our conditioning. Am I wrong?

I hope all the predictions are true, but I will have to wait and see, for the INCONSISTENCIES I HAVE WITNESSED IN TM's tenure.

I have never seen inconsistencies in conditioning. I have seen serious inconsistencies/poor performances in strength/size somewhat recently.

Name the last d tackle we had who was a stud and got bigger and stronger as he developed here.

I think what we have seen is coming in second on a lot of big time front 7 players, typically linemen, has hurt our depth and overall talent level. This makes it look like Lawrence or Alexander or Gilmore had Poor conditioning when in fact they were just asked to play too many snaps against gigantic arse human beings.

also not recruiting the O/D line well
What.... a non S-Pumping realist coach?

D Line coming along nicely and close to the Crimson Red Devils in talent.

O Line not so much and close to the Scarlet Red Knights of Rutgers. (In fact, I'd probably take some of the Rutgers OL's)

The LSU football program is not that far off in talent form Bama. (Except in depth and OL) Got to get that OL deficiency corrected and it will only happen in recruiting. For some reason, LSU has been "Settling" on non-SEC caliber OL's in the recruiting process. We've had a serious talent evaluation problem there. Too early to say if O and Cregg can fix it...……..

Ok but what were we recruiting? Faster, smaller linemen and faster, smaller backers
