The hayfield is in BFE in all honesty it should not be a pay lot.
i know not many people (including myself)would want to tailgate in the hay field, but if you pay for your truck and trailer do you get two parking spots or will they have a section for for people with small trailers.i dont mind paying some kind of fee but the way the schools doing this seems like it will cause a lot of problems on game day.

This should be the main issue here. Not the fact that LSU is charging, but I'm skeptical that it will never be smooth.

I've got a better plan! I'm not renewing at all, I'm not paying to park, and I'm not buying over priced concession stands! I've bought a 160"HD Projector and a 160" HD screen and a new refrigerator that holds all the beer I need. The bath room has no line and I don"t get searched to enter the room. I no longer will need to pay for the Fuel to get me to the game(round trip last year $150.) get a hotel room $200 plus for two nights in Louisiana, that use to help Louisiana with tax revenue. Also restaurants that will no longer be patronized. All of the New policies that have been put in place has basically put out of state fans out of LsU. I will always Love LsU but it's become kinda like a demanding wife after a while you finally realize she doesn't Love you just after what you have. To whom ever gets the tickets I'm giving up they are great seats and great people around them. This is my rant and the truth the way I see it.

Why should LSU give a damn about people who just tailgate and don't go to the game? what does LSU get out of those people ?
The value of LSU's unique tailgating experience, which DOES affect many people's decisions to buy tickets and come to the game. Every year I personally know several people who buy tickets and come to the games ONLY because they want to experience the tailgating.

Take away the tailgating (which this seems likely to do) and there will very likely be a significant drop in attendance. Likely not this year, but by 2012, almost certainly by 2013 (if the policy isn't changed), there will be.

Think of a game in Tiger Stadium where you drive in, walk straight to the Stadium, watch the game, walk straight back to your car, and drive home; do you honestly think there are 92,500 people a year who will want to pay $1000+ apiece to do that?

ETA: Nevermind, just looked up the new policy, and it'll suck, but it's not that bad. I'm an idiot for listening to ranter alarmism.

$20 or $40 is not going to stop me from going to a game. Do I like it? No. Will I do it? Yes

We're having to combine with another group to survive the fees. Too many people weren't going to come out early anymore if they had to pay $40. Since they are going to stop charging 3 hours before kickoff, many are just coming straight to the game now.

Also, they really didn't think about the 10,000 off campus students who attend games either.

I think what triggered this is the huge amount of garbage scattered around after each game. Bring some king size heavy duty trash bags and load your garbage in them. Then haul it away when you leave. How hard is that?
If tailgaters want LSU to eliminate the fees, show some leadership and leave the place clean after every game this year and then you might have some talking points to get the fees changed.

then tighten up on the litter bugs. the people that leave a mess dont just throw it on the ground as they leave, it accumulates throughout the day.

i've had to threaten to whip some high school kids arse for trashing the hayfield lot, it gets ridiculous. put an extra constable out there driving around, he sees trash building up, give them a warning, he drives by again and the trash is still there, throw their arse out and threaten arrest.

Bring your own fu cking litter bags. Take your shite home with you. It ain't that damn hard to do. It's what adults are suppposed to do. You have seen the trash I'm sure. It looks like a bomb exploded in a grbage dump after a game.

In the interests of full disclosure, I tailgate with a group of friends. We are some of those despised "late stayers". We hang in there till the final second. Then we go back and party some. When we are finally done, everybody carts part of the garbage home. It's not that tough. It can be done.

Where can I do this? Last I checked you can donate all you want, but no one pays for it! However, they charge for it in the Hospital to explain how that works.

Doesn't the $40 fee get you a clean up crew?

he said "litter bUgs", not litter bAgs. He's just saying don't charge everyone if the problem is the people leaving trash everywhere; just crack down on those leaving the trash and leave everyone else (like your crew) alone.

When it costs thousand of dollars in man hours to clean up the campus after a game...you get parking fees.

See thread last year about the garbage on campus.

I beg to differ with your implication of causation. The parking fees occurred because they believe people will pay them. Whether the campus cleanup costs thousands of dollars or not is immaterial to the decision; it is significant only as justification, imo. If it weren't for the cleanup costs, they'd blame the parking fees on traffic management costs, or exhaust fume remediation costs, or strain on the restroom plumbing costs, or etc., etc. But we'd still have parking fees.
