He doesn’t deserve the job.

O promised us the best coordinator hires while he’s HC. There’s a reason Raymond has never been a DC at a major school.

Bob Shoop and Charlie Strong would come here easily. There are 15-20 other DCs out there better than Raymond.

We can’t get complacent

Yup. One of my favorite Miles quotes.

Promoting Raymond would likely be a pretty big disaster. We need to make him Associate Head Coach like Aranda was and give him a huge salary bump, but keep him coaching DBs and recruiting.

I'd even be ok with making him "Co-DC" in title if we bring in an established, successful DC that is ok with that.

I want Bob Shoop.

He's never been one before. That is enough to disqualify him from having the DC role by himself.

And wasn't a coordinator here.

I'm fine with letting Raymond have some higher title and letting him be more involved in the defense, but he should not be our defensive coordinator by himself. Period.

Raymond is incredible. Wouldn’t lose sleep over him being hired. Not that we’re hiring.

I see Raymond being the Coach O type. An elite recruiter and really good position coach that will be a head coach one day without ever being a coordinator first.

I wouldn't want Orgeron coordinating our defense either.

I’d expect Raymond to follow Aranda if he wants to be a DC. It’s not gonna happen at LSU until he gets his feet wet at another program.

Nobody wants to understand this. You can't limit your hiring area to East Baton Rouge Parish!! Comfort zones kill Championship Football Programs.

Unless Raymond is the absolute best candidate we can get, he has no business being the DC of a major college program with no experience. If we get back to promoting from within as the easy, safe, and cheap hire, then our stay at the top of the CFP mountain will be very short.
