Somebody answer me this: is there any evidence or through the grapevine rumor that Landry has been highly involved in the program, or is this all based on the media shouting about it ad nauseam that people just assume it's fact at this point?
I don't have strong political opinions on Landry one way or the other. But from my understanding it seems like his involvement was mostly around the edges of Kelly/Woodward firing. Seems he facilitated the meeting between donors and the board of supervisors to discuss Kelly's firing and seemed to be mostly interested in how much of Kelly's contract would the state be on the hook for. Makes some sense as at the time the University was without a President.
He made those public comments about Woodward and I wouldn't be surprised if he would have had some say behind the scenes pressuring the Board to can Woodward.
But to my knowledge I don't see any evidence of him having been involved in hiring Kiffin, and I don't see any evidence of him trying to run the program on the day to day. If anything he opens he'll shamelessly open mouth publicly a couples times, goes on Scone's show, goes on McAfee, but nothing that indicates he has any say or clue of how the program is run or that Kiffin is taking all marching orders from him.
And of course there was the live tiger thing. That time he definitely shamelessly inserted himself.

Landry was very involved in the selection of the University President, Athletic Director, the firing of Kelly and McMahon, and the hiring of Wade and Kiffen. This is the most “hands-on” I have ever seen a governor be with LSU since Huey Long was governor.

I remember vividly, all those threads from last November when 99% of the rant was bitching and shitting bricks that LSU had no idea what it was doing after firing Brian Kelly and Woodward
It was a lot of the same posters that predicted every August we were gonna win the national championship under Kelly and thought last years baseball team was title contenders.
Very strong track record those posters have

He was fine to fire BK. That's not what pissed the SEC off.
It was when Landry fired Scott, then hired a rebel like Rousse, then hired WW back, then went after Lane.
Full disclosure. Before, I didn't really like Jeff Landry. But now:

Texas last title was 2005 A lot of Texas wins were in the southwest Converse, which was horrible. They have an overrated history. Oklahoma is historically a better program. Don’t care what the Tx OU head to head is

I can forgive optimism for Kelly football after winning a division title in year 1.
However, I never understood how anyone could be so delusional as to see anything positive about the McMahon era in basketball. Their capacity to spew sunshine in pitch darkness was completely baffling to me. It left me wondering if we were occupying the same universe, let alone watching the same sport.
