All these guys were highly-regarded coming out of high school. What are you talking about?

highly regarded =/= elite

I am in a pipe dream in this thread, so I am talking cream of the crop.

I am talking about hitting the national scene for a signal caller to build the offense around. Since JR, there has been no true elite QB to come in.

According to Rivals, JaMarcus Russell was the #6 pro-style QB and Jarrett Lee was the #7 pro-style QB. Matt Flynn was the #16 pro-style QB, Jordan Jefferson was the #8 pro-style QB and Chris Garrett was the #18 pro-style QB.

And taken from a previous post by crowbar832001,
quote:

ok here are the 5*'s since 2002

2002
Ben Olsen - Bust
Trent Edwards - probably best of that class

2003
Kyle Wright - Bust

2004
Rhett Bomar - Bust. kicked off the team.
Anthony Morelli - I would put in the Bust column.
Chad Henne - debatable best of the class

2005
Mark Sanchez - Best of the class

2006
Matthew Staford - with 3* Sam Bradford best of the class
Mitch Mustain - Bust. Head case.

2007
Jimmy Clausen - Wouldn't call a bust but never lived up to the hype.
Ryan Mallet - Big year. Think he has a chance for a number 1 pick in 2011.

2008
Blaine Gabbert - looks good
Dayne Crist - we start to find out this year

2009
Matt Barkley - too early
Garrett Gilbert - too early

2010
NONE

You can see that the 5* don't always work out. I mean Colt McCoy, Chase Daniels and Sam Bradford were all 3*s. It's hard to project a QBs success and it doesn't help that we don't have a real QB coach and force non option qbs to run the option.

To circumvent our lack of coaching, we need Brees or Manning. Not the high school versions, but the right now versions.

VERY TRUE!!!!

....long sigh....

If it frustrates the fans, just think how the players feel. Tough spot with a good but hardheaded HC.

based on physical attributes CG is our best chance for an elite qb. Hopefully he can make a run at the job next year

What attributes do you see in him that Lee or JJ don't have? Not being sarcastic or argumentative, but I'm truly curious.

"Jamarcus Russell= Elite QB"

lulz, dude come on...

Btw look at the national championship teams of the last 5-10 years, most weren't built around amazing QB's who carried the team, they were balanced. See LSU 2003 and 2007, and Alabama 2009

I would love for LSU to recruit the type of quarterbacks Michigan was once known for before Rich Rod was hired. In the mold of a Chad Penne and Tom Brady. With Lsu able to recruit great running backs, a Michigan style qb would be a great wat to build an offense.

size, arm strength, relatively mobile in the pocket for a guy his size.

Lee has some of the physical things you want, but time and time again proves to have shite for brains.

Saban did a great job of recruiting leaders. Seems we've lacked that under Miles.

Bingo!

Example: Jacob Hester: 2 or 3 star.

Without him, no NC in 2007.

Loss of confidence doesn't equal shite for brains.

LSU has two QB's in that boat, and there is a common denominator(s)

Matt Mauck and Matt Flynn were not "top flight QB's"...but they were good enough to lead us to titles

Chicken you are right, but both Flynn and Mauck did not have to play until they were ready. Flynn in his 4th year as a back-up and Mauck in his 3rd and 4th year. BCS Champ year was Flynn's 5th year and Mauck's 4th year. JJ and JL were asked to play too early in their development, caused by that darn RP problem.

this D can be dominant with good DL production something I think this unit is capable of

Talent wise, maybe. We need some better DT's and LB's though.

Scheme and coaching wise, no..not possible.

Chavis does not coach that type of defense.

I'm sorry but I just dont think JL or JJ have it.

As far as I am concerned, we have no real QB and the ESPN guys said the same thing after the game Saturday.

Yes he was. Solid college QB who was the first overrall selection with a cannon for an arm. Remember he left his JR. year.

See VY a/k/a Texas in 2005, Tebow a/k/a Florida in 2008, Matt Leinart (the MVP) in 2005 and you can also say Ken Dorsey (MVP and good college QB) in 2001.
