so you are saying he isnt good at working the count?

I'm saying that you'd better hope that he walks, because when he swings...the odds of him getting on base bottom out.

Yea, you're right, I'm not saying pull the guy right this second, I'm just saying if he keeps trending down (and lets be honest, he is right now), maybe give Ware or someone else a shot

I'm just wondering how many games Watkins will win for us vs. how many he may hurt us.

i still dont think people understand that pitcher for FLA in the 9th was dealing. 95MPH on the corner is hard to hit. I dont care if you are trey watkins, mikie mahtook, or todd walker.

he made Ryhmes, arguably our most consistent hitter all year, look stupid with the same pitch.

In the words of Lee Corso (ala NCAA Football 2007-09) "I agree 250%". Gotta swing the bat

Watkins leads the team in K's and his on-base % is 7th among the regular 9

I've been saying that all year long. J. Jones should be leading off. Wakins can bring up the rear!

If you cannot be counted on to make contact with the ball you absolutely should not be the leadoff hitter.

not even if you get on base 41% of the time?

lol, ok.

I'm not about to critique them for swinging or not. Just didn't like the situation. Watkins should have been pitch hit for...but who you even going to put in? Ware was already burnt. The PH argument may not work.

yeah, everyone knows that, thanks coach.

that's why everyone is crying. I guess we should move Rhymes to 9 hole too.

Hitting leadoff isn't as simple as you make it out to be.

Dude, it's what I did...in college baseball...for 2 years. (blew out knees.)

I didn't play the caliber of baseball that LSU plays...I wasn't good enough. But, a leadoff hitter's job is the same at any level. I understand that you have to work the pitcher. Primarily so that your teamates can see his array of pitches and to raise his pitch count. However, you can't argue that a 250 batting average is acceptable against the kinds of teams we have played. It's not!!!

Lester is arguing that he should have been pinch hit for in that situation. Think about that for a moment...pinch hitting for your LEADOFF hitter. I don't care where he is hitting in the inning...2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. PINCH HITTING for your leadoff hitter? What does that say about your confidence in his abilities?

did they ever say Edward's sickness?

Snikeris was coming into the game already. Could have made a double switch

That is a prototypical 9-hole hitter.

Way to stay logical. Watkins isnt getting it done, regardless of what you claim or how close he is to others in OBP. Jacoby is a better hitter and its time to give him his fair shot.

you are simply clueless

again, his OBP is over .400

that is the most important stat for any leadoff hitter. I just assume you were terrible at leading off if you dont understand that.

you take the good with the bad. His skills as a leadoff hitter as the best on the team. He also strikes out a lot. which is why you pinch hit for him.

a good leadoff hitter doesnt have to be your best pure hitter. THey have to get on base ANY way they know how. That is the bottom line. Have another crown and coke and go to bed. You are clueless

Im not sure he is ready to assume that responsibility

Then what was the school of thought when Watkins was put at leadoff for the 1st time?

Just heard them say he was unavailable. I don't know much about Snikeris. Maybe he'd work.

What's the name of that JC 1B that hit a shite load of HRs in JC. He might have left the program, can't remember.
