Was he scared to swing the bat in game 1 of the regionals last year?

Im not sure he is ready to assume that responsibility

I'm not either...he hasn't been there yet.

However, I'm absolutely positive that Watkins isn't!

I'd be against nola going there too because he is a good run producer as well. He deserves some criticism as well, his defense hasn't been good this year at all

I'd say NOLA would be an option but it's debatable with our lineup. Not sure the makeup for this team would allow it.

because he's scared to swing the fricking bat! (see 9th inning of the Florida game tonight)

he was in a spot to drive in a crucial, crucial, run. It is different than most situations during a game that a leadoff hitter faces.

like i said, he should have been pinch hit for, also knowing he swings and misses a lot.

that was a really good pitcher. And a great pitch to get him out on. Kudos to him. Raph Rhymes looked pretty stupid too. Should be bench him too?

Nola is too slow to bat leadoff, imo. His lateral quickness in the field is one of his assets, but pure foot speed is not.

his OBP going into tonight was .420

Watkins is .411

what Watkins did in the 1st inning tonight is something Nola would not have been able to do.

True. I think the best answer is we just don't have a better alternative. That is something we all can agree on.

Well shite...that makes it easy, doesn't it??

He should be leadoff until he leaves regardless of production because he swung the bat in Game 1 of regionals last year.

brilliant

And he should be benched because he was "afraid to swing the bat" during one game?

No, he should be benched because he is an abomination at the plate. And don't forget...that was against some pretty lame competition.

Not swinging the bat was my argument to Lester Earl's argument that he works the count.

Hitting leadoff isn't as simple as you make it out to be. Its a very tough job to see a bunch of pitches and be comfortable hitting with 2 strikes. Yall need to realize we played the best team in the country tonight and went toe to toe with them, and if we can get the one tomorrow, we have a good chance of taking this series. LSU's record with Watkins at the top of the lineup is pretty damn good.

Well that's a valid point. I'm just wondering how many games Watkins will win for us vs. how many he may hurt us. It may just be a wash. It's not like the kid sucks. Just wish he made more positive contact.

Well, we might, unfortunately for us, he also happens to play football. After the spring game i'd love to see CPM give Ware a shot at lead off and LF

If you cannot be counted on to make contact with the ball you absolutely should not be the leadoff hitter.
