Tigers and Canes - Week 1 tells us a lot

Want to take my P&G glasses off for a second.
Miami returns 77% of their starters from a team that went 10-3 last year. They were one, albeit not even close, game away from going to the playoffs.
They return their starting QB from last year who is at the least very serviceable and takes great care of the football.
Do I think they will create as many turnovers as last year and be as opportunistic? Not a chance. Their defense will still be very strong this year.
And in one of the most important facets, head coach, they have the advantage. Whether you’re an O supporter or not, you admit they have the head coaching advantage. The turn around Mark Richt has achieved there is very respectable.
LSU returns 45% of their starters from a team that went 9-4 last year in a very down SEC year. (In no way, shape or form am I saying the ACC was better than the SEC last year). Doesn’t return a starter at the offensive skill positions. QB looks promising but is still a question mark.
The defense should be remarkable. Miami will not be able to contain our D Line - we will get pressure. And Dave Aranda might just be the best coach on ether sideline regardless of job title.
Miami won’t be able to prepare for our offense as they don’t have a single clue what it will look like (for the most part neither do we).
But even with my P&G glasses off and a ton of uncertainty in the air...this just seems like one of those games that LSU wins. And on the flip side, one of those games that Miami always finds a way to lose.
Come week 1 - win or lose, we will be able to at least judge how much heart this 2018 team will have.
This is one of the toughest opening games to judge in quite a while, what says the rant?

I think we come away with a very low-scoring win, field goal at the end type thing.

Miami has better coach and more returning experience from a better squad than LSU had last season
LSU wins
Solid insight

I think we win by 10 plus. I just don't think their offense will do much of anything against this defense. The offense has the potential to surprise a lot of people. Im hoping for the best. I like LSU's chances

LSU will destroy the Canes
That awesome coaching?
That proven offense?

I agree that this Miami game is a crucial test to how our early to mid part of our schedule goes.We have one of the most difficult schedules in the country and if we can beat a top 10 rated Miami team out of the box ,
this could be the catalyst and confidence to have a great season!

I don't think either offense puts up much in week 1 against two pretty stout defenses. But I think LSU finds a way to win in Dallas (basically a home game) against a mildly overrated Miami team. But agreed this game will tell us a lottt

This is what I've been trying to explain, theres too many unknowns so it makes it a toss up because we don't know what our team is gonna be like.

Both defenses will be great. Our probably a little stronger.
Both offenses shaky, Id have a little more confidence in them returning a decent starting QB and a few more starters on offense than us.
I’m interested to see what our special teams looks like. Haven’t heard too much about them on here lately.
But if this kicker is as advertised and a few of our athletes step up on special teams, then that could be the difference in this game.
We have more top to bottom talent than this Miami team, and those dynamic athletes we will have on special teams should be able to outshine the Miami special teams players.

They were struggling at the end of the year losing 3 games and a one point win over Georgia Tech. They struggled in the Spring with their QB's getting sacked 8 times and their starter getting sacked 4 times. I think this is a good time to play them. Also some people have voiced a concern about the Neutral Site.

Good post and on point.
If we manage to lose the first game, I just hope the wheels don’t come off. Playing so many new faces is a bit terrifying but with a solid defense, at least we’ll be in most games on that fact alone.

I mean ND had no offense to speak of and they scored on this defense. They'll score.

LSU wins by 10or more. Richt is no better of a Coach then Orgeron. Certainly not, better than Orgeron and Aranda. The pundits understate our returning starters. Giles and Fieko at the very least were starters in a power 5 program. Several others started games on the Oline and LB. so what does that mean. Anyway my two, cents.

Miami, gave up 31 points per game over its last 4. The QB has not lived up to reputation and is turnover prone. They were no better than last years LSU team.
