One of my high school history teachers told me the only time Tiger Band did not spell "LSU" on the football field during pre-game was after the Works Progress Administration built the LSU Lakes - she claimed the band spelled "WPA" to show thanks for the beautification.

Can anyone confirm this? Link me to a source? I've been poking around on google with not much luck.

I have no idea if my history teacher was wildly incorrect, so thanks in advance for the help.

LSU must have been behind at halftime of that game. Look at the half empty stands

I wonder if the students were stuck in those endzone bleachers?

Ah thanks for all the help, this is great.

Any other information? Does anyone know what year or game this was? A source other than TD?

Pretty cool that we played Troy back then, too.

I believe we spelled USA after 911, but we might have spelled LSU as well.
