We need to set the parameters for what constitutes being Tier 1/2/3/4 on this board. Too many posters claiming LSU is Tier 2 or "mediocre". There are over 115 D1 football programs. How many of them are mediocre? How many should shut down? Etc etc.

Labeling LSU as mediocre or Tier 2 is all so confusing considering LSU has finished in the Top 25 more this century than in any other stretch of 16 years in LSU's history. So then what was LSU considered throughout various stretches of the 1900s???

So, how many teams are in Tier 1 & who are they?
Is there room for a Tier 2 to move in?
How many teams are in Tier 2 & who are they?
Same question for Tier 3 & 4 (if there even is one).

Bottom line: LSU is NOT mediocre nor Tier 2. We're a nationally recognized name. Top flight players want to be here. Obviously we're not Bama, no one is.

LSU is a tier 1 school without question.

Anyone who says otherwise is a ruhtard.

A top tier school is one that competes annually for a p5 conference championship

LSU hasn't been there for 5 years, so . . . .

You're tier 2 when ed orgeron is your HC.

By that logic then Bama is the only Tier 1 program...

True, but in all fairness, put LSU in another Conference and trade with that P5 team like Ohio St., USC, Oklahoma and I bet LSU wins that Conference while those teams that LSU traded with will be right behind Alabama.

I don't know what tier LSU is currently in, but this is definitely a Tier 2 thread.

Stop...

The guy has done very well at both of the big schools he interim coached at, yet some of you monkeys want to constantly hang on to his record at Ole Miss - who has basically sucked for the last 40-years.

How about you nerds give the guy a chance before constantly bashing him?

Interim coaching is much different. I'll give him a chance, but we can't claim to be near the top when we whiff on top tier candidates and hire a d line coach.

We'll see how Ed does when he has to be in control of the whole process from January to December instead of stepping into an already set up machine.

This. Again, you are talking about a Coach who provided a spark for LSU's offense and had record breaking performances in 5 out of 7 games this year. All this without having an off-season to prepare for opponents like your boy Les Miles or time to change the entire offensive philosophy.

Finally, Coach O is a hell of a recruiter. Has put 35 players in the NFL with 9 first round picks. Let that sink in!

0 points against bama. Loss against a team in Florida that we dominated the whole game. You can't ignore that just because we beat some shite teams.

Seems like you ignored it for 12 years with Les Miles at the helm. He was much worse. Again, stop blaming the 0 points on Coach O. Bama had 0 points heading into the 4th quarter and it could have easily been a scoreless game.

As far as the Florida game is concerned, poor execution, missed opportunities, botched FGs, players running the wrong way was the reason we lost. They were prepared, but mistakes do happen.

Like who, Herman? For fricks sake...if ANYONE thought we had a chance with Herman once UT fired Strong, then they don't know Herman AT ALL. That cat DREAMED of coaching at UT.

Yes, because all loses are always solely on the coaches head.

Do you give him the sole credit for the wins?

LSU is top 10 in all time wins, has 3 titles and 30+ bowl appearances (including a bunch of Orange, Sugar, and Cotton bowls). Tier 1 by almost any measure.

But, but, but...we haven't beaten Bama in 5 years. So, we must be lower than Tier 1.

Again, have LSU trade places with any P5 Championship Team and chances are LSU probably wins at least 2 out of 5 years in any Conference while those teams finish second to Bama every year.
