Thoughts on a monday

WHere was the green package? All that talk and from my view, i didn't see any real pass rush or any extra blitzers outside of a few. Talked about ad nasuem on this board.
Lanard Fournette. Proud of him for fighting beyond his brother's shadow in a sense, but other RB's are more talented. it seemed like when he was in the game and got the ball, it was a negative play. Chalk it up to too many RB swing passes, but i think he needs to be moved down the depth chart.
That 3rd and 1, up 20-7... bad call.

We are quickly forgetting that Texas only scored 7 in the first half. It was not a good defensive performance in the second half at all, but Texas deserves some credit for that as well.
I'm not worried about the defense. I'm certain they will make adjustments to fix the mistakes. I'm sure it will take some adjustments to figure out how to handle our new, quick offense, to keep players fresh.
As far as Fournette. He probably has more talented runners behind him. We don't know if those younger backs are picking up on the pass protections, ball security, etc. That may have something to do with Fournette playing more. We aren't at practice to know.

all valid responses.
Indeed, had texas not scored on that long TD in the first half and we didn't blow the 3rd and 1 up 20-7 at the beginning of the 3rd, its a blowout

The defense had a rough 2nd half. No getting around that.
My thoughts on that front are that 1) the only offense of that caliber we face the rest of the season is Bama, 2) Aranda has earned a measure of goodwill over the last 3 seasons with his defenses, and 3) HOLY shite we have an offense that can actually go out and win games for us now

Yea that 3rd and 1 call was bad, but it probably works if we complete the pass. Still, should have just run the ball.
As for defense, we were intentionally containing and forcing Ehlinger to throw. Every time someone got in the backfield, he just ran around them and got a 10 yd gain. Unfortunately, he was lights out throwing the ball. I dont think he will ever be that successful again.
The defense worked in first half. And in second half we put Texas in A LOT of 3rd and long situations, but it seemed they converted every time. Our guys were there to make plays, the ball just didn't bounce our way.

On our last TD drive I was saying, this is where we find out if we are really going to be an offensive team. If we went out and tried to put it away with points, instead of running the clock out, I knew we were fully all in with this dominant offense at LSU. My question was quickly answered, and boy was I fired up. All questions have been answered with the offense. I'm 100% bought in. The defense will be fine.

Coming out of the half and to be in this spot on the opening drive... that's when I'd like to see the fullback, two tight, we running for the first down package.

They were holding, blocking in the back, and downright tackling our d line and LBs.
We were on the field for 10 game minutes(an eternity for a defense by any standards)
There were several obvious holds missed on crucial 3rd downs in that drive. Had they been called we would have gotten off the field. Because we couldn’t, and our ensuing offense possession was 3 and out, we were right back out there.
After that we were gassed all night and couldn’t get our legs back under us.
It was posted in a thread earlier speculating about not bull rushing the QB. Instead just have the DL stay in their lanes and force their QB to beat us with his arm bc of our talented secondary. As opposed to him getting out of the pocket and breaking off big runs, which he is highly capable of doing.
The defense is fine and will be moving forward. Maybe a little drop off from last year bc the up tempo offense is going to keep them on the field more often and keep teams throwing the ball.

And how quickly we forget that TWO back-to-back goal line stands early were the difference in the game. Our defense stuffed them on 7 of 8 plays at the goal line, with the eighth being the dropped pass by their RB. I think we dropped one later, too (right??), so that cancels that drop I suppose.

My thoughts are on a Monday is we gotta be better on defense.

I'm fine with Aranda, but yours is not a great take. I don't know all of the up and coming young coaches who are ready for a shot at a program like LSU. The guy to replace Aranda (assuming he needed replacing) could be the defensive coordinator at Cincinnati, or a defensive back coach at Michigan. It's not my job to keep track of these guys.
Back when we replaced Dinardo I could not have come up with Saban as a suggestion. Does that mean I had to be in favor of keeping DiNardo?

I didn't hate the call, the defense just had the play covered well and even if CEH had caught the ball, I don't think he gets the 1st down.
The defense looked good in the first half holding UT to only 7pts. we did luck out with that dropped TD pass early on, but when UT ran that 19-play drive, that changed the second half. that said, our D is having issues, offense y'all need to win the game for us.
The defense will rebound this week and next week against Vandy and get right

CEH just needs to catch the damned ball on that easy swing pass.
It’s going for 4-5 yards and a first down if he catches it.

First half we went a lot of man coverage and brought pressure. Fulton and Stingley were lock down. 2nd half, we played more zone, especially on 3rd down, and thats when their receivers beat our LB's and nickle/dime coverages
I was at the game and left thinking Fulton had a bad game....thankfully I re-watched the game and I think he actually played pretty well. I think he had 1 PI and multiple pass break ups. The TD he gave up he was there to make the pick, he just timed it wrong. Other than that, I don't recall him nor Stingley getting beat bad.
Stingley is one legit MOFO.

Hard to question much about this game, but that was not a great call for 1 yd. It was a momentum changer. Texas then took 19 plays and scored a TD. Thats when everyone started cramping and needed hydration. The other thing is the Duvernay guy was killing us. What would have been wrong putting stingley on him in the 2nd half.

yea i agree, they didn't play bad. Texas just had their back against the wall and was throwing out everything they had. They got very lucky to keep it that close imho.

You just admitted you aren’t qualified in the subject, but you feel qualified enough to call for someone’s job. The fact that you called for the job of the guy who is quite unanimously considered the #1 defensive coach in the country, tells everyone who does keep track about these kind of things exactly what they need to know.
No coach can put up a brick wall and stop every team every time. No to mention all of the variables that go into coaching college kids. I would take Aranda's worst day over just ab everyone’s best. As we have seen his worst day is good enough to beat a top 10 team in their house.
