We returned 3 starters in 2012. 1 got hurt. 1 quit the team Halfway through the season. We then lost our starting RG to concussions.

And we were still smart enough to fire our OC.

Sometimes it’s maybe both a bad OL and a Bad OC.

2012

And everything I said Is accurate.

2013 we moved everyone around and got a new OC and wow everything looked good.

So you think the starting point of this OL is at least the equivalent of having La'El Collins, Trai Turner and Vadal Alexander?

Just curious

Nah, if that was the case we'd probably be about 75th in offense.

No worse than 2009 for sure and managed to lose by less points in 4 losses total (23), than the '18 loss to Bama, or State in '17.

Vadal Alexander was a true freshman in 2012 and he was atrocious at times. He was abused in the bowl game against Clemson.

"Mettenburger back to pass" and he is "Sacked again"
we couldnt pass block that game but Jeremy Hill sure did pick up some yards that game

Yeah, I think Jeremy Hill had an inexcusable lack of carries late in that game.

Our starting OL for the last 6 was

LT Josh Dwarcysk
LG Sophmore Collins
C PJ Lonergan
RG RS Freshmen Turner
RT True Freshmen Vadal Alexander

Probably better guards but also much younger all around and Our LT wasn’t even good enough to play guard.

More atrocious than our sophomore RT this year who literally graded out horribly almost every game he played there? I remember back then, and while junior Alexander was better than freshman Alexander, I dont think you can argue Deculus was any better, that's for sure. In fact I'd easily still say Deculus was worse and likely has a lower ceiling than Alexander 2 years in (At least at RT).

I mean, ya think?

2 routine NFL starters

Look, I know you're trying to show this OL is fixable, it is, but we dont have a Collins of Turner on this line at all this year. Even our sophomore RT was arguably worse than our true freshman RT that year.

For the OL to get fixed next year, you're going to see some major personnel shifts IMO.

It's hard to say in ANY game this year the OL looked "good". There was just no real improvement from game 1 to game 12. We have a personnel problem there and no doubt (At least I hope) it's going to get addressed.

Collins looked like a beast but st the some time did you think Turner was a NFL caliber guard in 2012? He wasn’t even a first rounder when he left the next year.

Collins was obviously better than a Brumsfield even as a Sophmore.

But otherwise Vadal was a guard playing tackle by necessity.

It was quite excusable. Clemson was selling out to stop the run, and the coaches wisely took advantage of that. Mettenberger failed to execute, especially on third and one when the coaches made the money call. They lined up in run formation and swung a receiver into the flat. Complete that pass and the game is over. Mett threw it into the ground - the receiver was WIDE open and no more than 15 yards from the QB. My wife could have shot putted that one and completed it. For the next 5 years knuckleheads are blaming the coaches for not giving it to Jeremy Hill.

Still doesn't mean you couldn't have used TE more in quick routes and the screen game with the RB's could have been effective with Fournette in that role.

Are you seriously trying to downplay Turner? Dude was a total beast, people just always get mad when an OL leaves here early and it's not a 1st rounder, doesn't mean they weren't awesome. He was still a 3rd round pick and has been STARTING in the NFL for how many years now? The majority of the fanbase has no clue how to judge interior OL play.

Brumfield is one of the worst routine starters we've had on the OL in recent memory. He graded out pretty terribly this year and routinely got benched for a true freshman who struggled himself.

And still was notably better than our RT we put out there this year, I mean let's not sit here and pretend Deculus did really anything remotely good at RT. The dude needs to be put on the left side of the line. Deculus grades by PFF at RT this year:

56.2
57.9
56.7
58.9
50.6
53.7
50.5
61.5
67.1
57.9

A mid 60s is considered average...yeah...
