All of those hosses on both sides of the MSU lines? They were 2 and 3 stars. They were developed, and didn't come into their own until about their 3rd year in the program.

All those top 10 rankings didn't get us a good quarterback, a good noseguard, or more than 3 offensive linemen who can pass block.

Also poor roster management. We have too many DB's and fullbacks, and not enough beef where it counts.

Can we just accept that our talent level is way below our peers? It is. And it will be a while before we climb out of this.

Yeah I never understood why we always had 38 tight ends and fullbacks on the roster.

State was more talented on the lines, and we lack depth.

State will be more talented on the lines than a lot of teams they play this year, though.

Dude that's what State has. They have legit 2 and 3 stars with maybe 2-3 four-five star players. What you are seeing is Mullen getting the most of out of his players than anyone in the SEC along with Saban. It is a huge contrast of what LSU gets out of their players which isn't jack shite and they are coached down. It is what it is..IF you don't believe me pull up NFL.com and see how many players State has in the league compared to LSU.

Now LSU's depth and recruiting is going to shite this will only get worse for LSU.

We've used the dbu thing to our advantage in recruiting but slipped in critical areas like OL and DL. We have good dbs on the bench and can barely field a starting d line.

It's almost like they had a competent coach selecting which positions to fill during recruiting....

They get 3-4 four stars in every class and a lot of high three stars. The difference is that the get big, tough, physical dudes that can be developed. They scout extremely well and get physical athletes and turn them into great football players.

The question that needs to be asked is how is it that State can get players like that for their lines but we have failed so miserably at it recently?

I'm not trying to slight what Dan Mullen has done at State. Given the very limited resources and lack of any past notoriety, what Mullen has built State into is "comparable" to what Saban has done at Bama. Now I'm not saying that State is as good as Bama by any means here. What I'm saying is that one coach (Mullen) has had very limited resources and has built a respectable program at state where as Saban has had unlimited resources and has built a championship winning program. Basically what I'm getting at is that I don't believe Saban could have done much better had he been at State as Mullen has done. He might could have won them the SEC in 2014 when they had their best year but I'm not convinced he could have done any better than that. If you had taken Mullen and put him at Bama, I believe he could have won at least two of those championships that Saban did and he didn't have the name recognition that Saban had.

So why is it that we can't get top rated Olinemen? (Especially OTs)

It sounds like you really did a lot of research here. Off the top of my head the guy that kicked our arse the most was a 5 star true sophomore.

I am not knocking state. Their scouting department is good and besides bama maybe one of the better ones in the conference. They do a good job of assessing need. Wish we had Mullen and his staff here instead of Bozo the clown.

Talent level that wins the big games are at OL/DL and at QB and LSU is average at best in those positions.

So how good was mullens development last year when he went 5-7. Oh yes that don't fit the narrative you all are pushing. There is a reason we have played more freshman than any other team in the country!

We have a lot of players that leave after their junior year, transfer out, cant make the grades or injured. Their guys grow in the program , stay out of trouble and are not prima Donna that think they will get a high draft pick . So, they stay their Senior year. Last Saturday, LSU was playing with young guys coming in and MSU was playing guys who are older , stronger and smarter than ours.

What is the correct number of offensive and defensive linemen we should have on the team at any one time?
