Not a rant dude. A very well thought and level headed analysis of things we saw last night and all season long.

This team doesn't have a good defense, and we saw a bad offensive gameplan from Miles and Cam that was made even worse by a very bad game from our QB that had been stellar all year.

It sucked to lose, but it happens. OM deserved to win, and despite our awful all around effort, we lost on a last second FG on the road to a decent team in a must win situation that always plays us tough.

Brutal, but we just have to work hard these next three weeks to prepare for a very important month in November.

Hoping the NFL O doesn't pack it in like our D did last year after Bama.

Hoping this incoming recruiting class sees opportunity where our fans see only despair.

Well done.

To add a common thread to #s 1, 2, 3, and 7, the tackling on this team is abysmal. With everything that went wrong last night, if LSU tackled even at an average clip, they likely win. What is concerning is that I'm not sure how that gets fixed. I tend to think that if a guy can't tackle at ages 18-22, he's not going to be able to all of a sudden "figure it out."

I learned that we don't have an NFL starter on defense.

I learned that my blood pressure is not adversely influenced by LSU football if I turn the TV and radio off and read a book.

1. The defense isn't "back". What we thought was "back" was really just the result of playing against a terrible UF "O" and an MSU team that lost heart after LSU regained control of that game in the 2nd half.

2. Our ability to stop the opponent on 3rd downs, particularly in the last drive of the game is abysmal. It happened against in both our losses this year and against several last year, including Bama. It's a problem that has continued throughout Chavis' tenure.

3. Our Linebackers are too small and too slow. We have no presence of a defense past the DL.

4. Our O-line's pass protection has major issues against "stunting" DL's.

5. There still seems to be a lot of indecision as to who our starting secondary is. We have a lot of interchangeable parts. Last night Ronald Martin played over Corey Thompson, who seemed effective the last couple of weeks.

6. Coaches changed up the running backs last night, there was a lot of RB by committee with Hill, Hilliard, Blue and Magee all getting carries in the 1st quarter. This didn't make a whole lot of sense last night and still doesn't today. Is there something else going on behind the scenes causing this coaching decision?

7. This D allowed over 500 yds offense last night for what seems like at least the 4th or 5th time this season. The likelihood for losses against UA and aTm are legit. Being a 4 or 5 loss team again this year is a definite reality.

8. Imagining this team without offensive players like Mett, Hill, OBJ, Landry, Collins and Blue combined with defensive issues that aren't easily fixable is concerning for next year. Having a young team may be a problem we end up having to deal with every year.

9. Les Miles confirmed once again he is a terrible time manager. It appears to stem from his lack of situational awareness and an inability to make a quick decision and act upon it. Example, deciding to go for it on fourth down late proved wise, but not making that decision until 17 seconds was left of the play clock is inexcusable. The lack of situational awareness and knowing what he had intended to do in that situation caused doubt, moment for thought and oops... a burned timeout. Had that TO not been burned and the other not wasted at the end we could have kept 2 TO's in our pocket for the end of the game that would have left us with over a minute remaining to tie or win the game.

10. Lastly, I have no idea what it will take to get this team and program back on the right track. When your game plan is to win on talent alone and you start losing underclassmen to the NFL you've got a major problem. In addition to the technical and game management side of things I think Les needs to work his arse off to "recruit" our 3rd round and higher type underclassmen to stay in school for another year.

Just the transcript from the 98.1 call-in show...

Let's see here. I am usually a very optimistic fan. What did I learn last night.
1) Ole Miss' B squad has more heart and want to than LSU's A squad.
2) Ole Miss' head coach out coached and out prepared LSU's coach. That means they get twice the effort for half the price!
3) Our defense is a hella lot better when we send extra men to blitz, especially Mills.
4) Our fan base will always be split. Idk if it's a result of the egg we laid against Bama on 1/9/12 or the Lee/JJ debacle. We need to support these kids and LSU. I'm not asking anybody to support the coach if they don't want to, but please support the kids throughout the rest of the season!

Obviously this team is not very good and next year will not be any better. We will get slaughtererd by both Bama and a&m, no question.

I seriously hate our dumb shitbag fans. Some of you are seriously huge pussies. We were in the national championship discussion until losing last night. A&M just lost to Auburn at fricking home. The loss sucks and effectively ended the season, but those idiots saying our program is on the decline and that we suck are so fricking stupid and in general look like a huge count that can't handle a loss.

we were singing this same song and dance how we were done and would never sniff the SEC championship game under Miles in 08 and 09, then 3 years later we went and had one of the best season in LSU history.

In all fairness my post was on what we know about this team, not a prognostication of how we will do in future years under miles.

Easy to bitch about after the fact. What would have you posted if Mett does not throw 3 picks and LSU wins by three scores...

Same players, same coaches, what would have changed? nothing...

Typical "flappin in the breeze" fan. Don't get me wrong - I was and am mad as hell but I am a realist that sees this program for what it is.

And while you are bitchin why don't we get some new fans that will show up to the games when we get this team playing perfect! 15000 NO SHOWS was a complete embarrassment to the program.

I think I learned that my passion for LSU football is perhaps declining. I was in Oxford and actually wasn't that devastated by the loss the way I would have been 5-10 years ago. Maybe I am one of the spoiled fan base, not sure. Haven't missed a game home or away in over 15 years, but just find myself being apathetic. When we called the timeout early in the 2nd half, I said to my buddy "this will cost us at the end". It has just very predictable game in and game out. The LSU gameday management cluster is frustrating. Depending on the cost increase seriously may give it up and watch from home. Damn...maybe I need to call Dr. Phil or maybe have a few beers. I sound like a grumpy old man rereading it...it is just lost a lot of its appeal and fun to me. That is what I learned.
