The decision to go for it on 4th and inches was the CORRECT call. What kind of a panzy wants to settle for 3 freaking field goals when you can spit to paydirt and all you need is a few inches.

The correct call? Obviously not. LSU failed to convert and came away with no points. Even Miles admitted he made a mistake.
What kind of "panzy" settles for 3 field goals? The kind of panzy coach who realizes a third of the way into the game that it will be a low scoring affair, his defense is throttling the other team's offense, and that he has an offensive line that has not shown an ability to dominate on the interior of the line so that a 4th and inches is not even close to a sure bet, whereas a chip shot field goal is.
Because the game was going to be low scoring, points are at a premium, even if scoring them 3 at a time. If the score had been 9-0, then UGA has to score twice to take the lead, not once, as happened.

Seriously, what type of work do you do that you can get by with such flawed, results oriented thinking? A play call is incorrect because it didn't work?

We won't see Sheppard as the "option guy" because the entire stadium, and the other team, will know that is what's coming. Crowton has shown much predictability in that regard. I would love to see what is suggested, and allow Sheppard to run the option for at least 3-4 plays against Florida, though I bet we will get 0 yards, if ONLY they would allow him to pull up on a later option and make a deep pass.

Not that the line got a good push, but I thought the spot was pretty bad on that play too.

I agree on some points.
1. Shep is just a freshman playing the most difficult positions (as well as a few others). He needs to put on 10 pounds. This will all come.
2. JJ is a good option qb - as CBS pointed out - he needs to run more horizontal to the LOS rather than going back into the backfield.
5. Totally agree about the D. Different styles but good results.

Damn, supa, that post rocks.
It's good to see someone who understands the game and this team / coaching staff.
The JJ / Shep teaching comment is a great observation. Wish so many other tards would take time to step back and examine the realities of CFB and see why decisions are made the way they are.
Even the 4th and 1 call - INCLUDING the formation. That was a call-out to our O-line - had we made that play, UGA would have had no game the reset of the game. That was a "you're our bitch" call. Would have been something to get a a yard or two on it.

#7 I don't understand why Patrick Peterson wasn't following A. J. Green to the locker room to watch him piss in the 4th quarter. With the game on the line, you put your best against their best and may the best man win. I feel bad for Hawkins, because he played that pass to Green in the end zone as well as he could possibly have played it. Unfortunately, Green was the better man on that play. Still, if it had been PP defending and in the same position, I am quite certain the outcome is either an incomplete pass or an INT.

i totally agree. knowing that's probably their best option to score, we should have had PP 1v1 with CJ helping over the top.. and come up with some type of blitz i would imagine

Nothing wrong with using a play action call in that instance (like UGA did to us on their 1st TD). It seems like we have not had a great deal of success through 5 games at being able to convert 3rd and 4th down with a yard or less to go.
That being said, there's also the old saying about taking the points when you're on the road. Being up 2 scores on the road in that type of game would be huge.

I honestly think Shepard should start saturday night and you should bench Jefferson! Lol. In all seriousness...Shepard will be a weapon soon for you..but its easy to tell he isnt versed enough on offensive plays to be out there much.
He will be a thorn for many SEC foes in years to come...trust me. Once he doesnt have to think and can just react....look out.

On Hanagriff/Rush tonight they mentioned the Bandit package of 4 DEs on the LOS making a comeback and since DE depth is a strength right now and DT depth isn't, it might be a good idea to try it. The extra speed on the front could be especially effective against UF, who doesn't have a physical RB to punish 4 DEs on the LOS.
Maybe not a bad idea, but tebow (if he is on the field) will be an obvious monkey wrench in that strategy

#2 JJ is a terrible option quarterback (because he is solely a pitch man)
JJ was good with the option in UW game. In its aftermath, everyone said that QB cannot take hits on keepers in option plays. I assume that the coaches have instructed him to keep only if he has a clear lane.
I would not find any fault with that logic either. Coaches are working with a QB. They would not want to work with a new QB if JJ needs to get off the field. With JL game plan would have to be altered as well.

Great post

What gets me is the play calling. The offense completly dominates the first half between the 20's with great play calling...then they get in the red zone and don't know what to call anymore. The same with the start of the second half...why start being conservative again?
They improved a ton and I'm happy with the win...
