When a student-athlete making NIL $ gets suspended, do the payments get suspended as well?

I’d guess it depends on how the deal was structured.

I doubt it as long as they’re on the team.

True.

But even then, I doubt it. The "deal" can't be tied to performance. I.e., it can't only be in effect as long as the player plays for LSU and is actually playing. That's why most of the NIL deals are very short in duration (just a few months).

While NIL is, in essence, pay-for-play, it can't expressly be structured that way.

I was thinking along the lines of conduct or morality type clauses. Something like if you skip practices or get into an altercation off campus and get suspended from the team for a duration, but are still a member of the team, etc.

I would think there are clauses in there that can somewhat tie it together. For example if someone’s NIL with Cane’s is tied to public appearances, there might be a clause that says if the athlete does something to damage their image, Cane’s reserves the right to cancel their appearances at no cost to them, effectively cancelling their NIL deal.
