I don’t think anyone suggested otherwise. The string of comments is related to the notion that athletes were somehow forced into NCAA servitude prior to now.

Ed Orgeron gets a pay raise $9Mil/yr

Fans: Wow That's alot of money, he won us a title and I love CFB

Transfer Portal and NIL

Fans: Oh thats just unfair and will ruin college football

Hit me up when coaches are staying at places for 1-2 years at a time and then leaving without any sort of penalty.

So now forgoing a scholarship isn't a penalty?

The whole argument for the "don't pay the players" crowd was that a scholarship was worth just as much as a payment.

Exactly. What these faux-revolutionary dimwits don't grasp is that the entire mammoth popularity of CFB is premised on a very unique emotional bond between the fanbase and the school. Policies are now being implemented that attack and corrode that bond. When the bond is gone, the money will be gone as well.

I don't disagree with anything you said, but what we've seen with the portal and new transfer rules just proves what I've felt/known for years...fans, generally speaking, care a lot more about the programs than most players ever have or will. College football programs are a means to an end for most of them. The new age of free movement has done nothing more but bring that issue to the forefront.

I mean, it's no secret that a fan will put it's allegiance to the school over a player that will be out of their consciousness after 3-4 years. Not exactly a shocking thought.

Doesn't mean the player doesn't deserve to make money off the school selling their jersey.

Fans want to see kids come in and play hard for their team. Not shut it down when they get nicked and leave for perceived greener pastures.

I’m all for the kids being compensated accordingly based on their play. Not their potential. Like Quin Ewers bouncing after signing a 1 mil NIL. These businesses aren’t going to let that money role down to Texas. I also think college sports are to damn hard to just pick your school for money. You better pick somewhere you feel comfortable and want to be.
