I'm not sure I agree with your premise.

I think on Saturday we took a lot of first pitch called strikes, but the umpire was so inconsistent in his strike zone players on both teams were frustrated at many of the calls.

I thought on Sunday we took our hacks at a lot of first pitches, mostly to our detriment.....

Good question. I'm not sure they even put together a schedule this far in advance but I'll ask him about it.

don't see why we can't make at least one road trip. 3 game set with TCU, UT, or Rice would draw a huge crowd, and they'd come to the Box the next year.

$$$$$

i'm pretty sure part of the deal when building the new stadium was that we would play the pre sec schedule at home. Teams like app st don't mind the one way deal of coming here without us returning the favor. Teams like texas want a home and home deal and lsu is not interested in that right now.

Why not have a Winn Dixie Showdown type of event at the Box then?

Every home game = $100,000+ in revenue.

Therefore, a three game away series costs the program over $300,000. Even for LSU that would be a significant loss.

Even if the opposing team agrees to return the series, that $300,000+ is gone forever.

I know what you are saying but wouldn't we get paid to go play at another teams place? Don't we pay opponents to come here?

ETA: We lose more money not hosting regionals than going on the road early in the season to gain valuable experience for SEC play IMO

works for me. but they're only going to invite teams who won't expect us to return the favor. Which probably means a showdown type of deal with the same caliber teams people are complaining about today.

Sometimes. If it's a home and home series, no. If it's one time series, yes, but it's no where near what we make for a home series. I know we paid Southern something like $5,000 to play a mid week game at the Box without having to return the game at their place. Even if someone pays LSU triple that per game for a weekend series, it's not enough.

9 total games means at least 2x the revenue at the gate and more money at the concession stands(which I would think is all LSU's money). When it was in the dome we never had to return trips to Miami, FSU etc. We all know Skip did it b/c it generated more revenue.

I still think teams would make the trip for these events.

I know you don't like my question about our weak schedule. i guess at the end of the year we can compare our RPI to that of other SEC teams to see how weak the schedule is/was.

Don't get me wrong, i like the idea.Maybe that would be a question to throw at PM Tuesday?

the way it was explained to me..it was all about money to help pay for the stadium.

Now that I think about it the WD showdown may have ended b/c Tulane wanted more of the gate. I could be wrong though.

Why do we recruit guys who are 5'9 150 lbs soaking wet to hit?

Why are the bats not aggressive?

Maybe the payout should go according to your record in the showdown? Sort of how they pay golfers?

With the teams we have had the last few years we wouldn't make any money

Will it be at least a little easier to get better hitters/talent on campus with the new MLB CBA? What type of impact will the new signing deadline have on recruiting and roster management?

DeMarini sucks.

Yes Russian, ask him what went into his decision to use DeMarini this year. Did the players have any input?

Anybody know if coaches are required to disclose the particulars of the contracts with bat and equipment companies?

Why don't you ask him how he thought the team would perform at the plate prior to the ASU series, and after winning game 1? Then ask him if he believes the team will finish in the upper 1/3 of the conference in batting average and runs scored. Then ask him about ASU's Sunday starter and if he is really good or did the team make him look that way due to a really craptacular outing in every aspect of the sport? Maybe asking how ASU's weekend starters would fare in the SEC over an entire season is the easiest way to ask it?

The Saturday loss can be considered a loss against a good pitcher who is normally their #1, Sunday was closer to pitiful. Yeah, teams from smaller conferences still have some players, that is demonstrated every season, but a competitive Tiger squad doesn't drop two games to ASU @ home, especially with the margin in game 3.
