It’s just so ironic whenever our fanbase gives Will Wade a pass for throwing players under the bus and not taking responsibility for the loss last night, and then the second Mainieri says anything close to that, the fanbase thinks it’s an awful thing for Mainieri to throw players under the bus, and he should be fired.
So why does Will Wade get a pass?

Do you remember what the defense was like pre-Will Wade?
Even so, other posters have posted stats that show Jones' defense was better than Wade's.

I’ll give him two more seasons at the most

No. I realized that my disdain was not for Wade, but for the segment of his fan base that had this odd, over-the-top worship of him.
The losses have settled down that element of his fan base. With most LSU fans now having realistic expectations, it is easy to appreciate Wade's coaching and recruiting.
Is he a perfect coach? Of course not. Is he an excellent coach? Yes.

This! All day, every day.
He can recruit. But he has a severe deficiency at coaching defense, which is basically effort.
The proof is that there are several teams with LESS talent that hold the same teams to fewer points.

Defense boils down to effort, talent, and coaching. When their offensive players are quicker and more talented penetration occurs and defense collapses then you give up easy 3s. When you play off to avoid blow bys, you give up 3s. We need quicker guards and a rim protector.
A coach can only do so much but there is a lack of effort at times with poor execution. Taylor loves to go under screens and give up 3s. That is poor coaching.
My point is it’s a combination of things but you can’t easily bench someone for our effort when you’re bench is 2 deep.

Here's a great idea. COACH YOUR TEAM. SHOW THEM HOW TO PLAY DEFENSE.

Wade said after the Texas game he's done playing Mr Nice guy. He wasn't lying.

In a sense I agree... But who says WW isn't making Taylor run suicides or do something every time he goes under a screen in practice and it still doesn't sink in, what else can you do?
I am certainly not putting Marshall Graves or James Bishop out there to prove a point and bench Taylor

Joe Burrow has a lot in common with Will Wade Posted by chinhoyang online on 5/16/18 at 4:17 pm Both have generated huge fan hype, but it is all big talk at this point (and not big talk from Burrows, obviously, but from the fans). We have no clue whether Joe Burrows will be a star QB in LSU's system. We have no clue whether he will come to LSU other than some "followings" on social media sites.
This was an awesome take

Wow. The losses prove that he’s substantially raised the expectations. Anyone would have taken a likely tournament team in year 3 when he took the program over. Now after he won the conference in year 2, he’s held to that standard

Yet people will still stand by this being a talent level problem. It's much much more than lack of talent. This can be corrected, but Wade's coaching style isn't getting it done. Hopefully he hires a defensive guru next season.

I’d be interested in seeing how that is measured. While we may give up lots of 3s and some points, we run at a good pace and have forced a lot of turnovers under him without fouling too much (also a reason our D is poor along with over rotations)

I love Will Wade and he is in a tough spot, but you get what you accept. He's an offensive coach and doesn't demand great defense.
None of Wade's first 3 teams have played defense very well. Last year's team made defensive plays (Water's steals and KBW blocks) that helped mask some of the blow-bye's.
It's obvious Will has no answers at this point. So he either keeps allowing guys who play poor defense to get minutes or he benches them for a lesser player.

It’s both. We’ve had undersized or slow guards and a lack of depth, especially down low. We can’t afford foul trouble and we haven’t had guards that are great on ball defenders

What confusing about that?
Waters was undersized the past 2 years, but he was great at getting steals
Smart is slow laterally and can’t prevent penetration

not a fan of Alleva, but perhaps if WW's name had not come up, Alleva would nit have been placed in the position he was.
