Hunter is a beast IMO and it wouldn't have hurt us if the other 11 dlinemen we signed the past 2 years actually stepped up and played like the top tier recruits they were.

and that's mostly a coaching issue

Jeez, that class looks awful when you put it that way.

This thread can be summed up thusly. It does in fact appear as if HS recruits have started to turn away from Les. And, before you tell me about our class rankings, let me remind you of how often it is pointed out in this board when talking about other teams that often, players are viewed more favorably depending on the schools after them. Bottom line us that apparently, not only are the best of the best DL and OL choosing Bama over us, they appear to view a few SEC west schools as better these days.

I'm also going to point out that everyone is nuts if they don't think the asinine handling of the QB situation in 2011 isn't used successfully against us in recruiting. You don't have to agree with the reasoning but you can't pretend that many of the views expressed in here aren't shared by some recruits and their parents.

Recruiting classes should be re-evaluated every 4 years and adjusted to see if the rankings really hold true.

How dare the staff not understand the incentives created by the 2011 collective bargaining agreement.

I think its kind of funny that everyone just assumes that in 2012, LSU should have known the new dynamic created by the NFL's CBA that hadn't even been in effect for an entire calendar year.

Yeah I think coaches take a lot of heat they don't deserve.

Jacoby briscoe isn't even on Miami's roster anymore but Hunter is a beast at TCU

Good post by the OP. I had just looked up the DT signees the other day and noticed the 1 DL signee in 2012. Add that to the early departures and the busts and you end up where we are now on the DL.

We need to sign several Claude Wrotens from Juco this year. Guys who can step in a dominate next year.

I don't need them to even dominate. But, it might be a nice change of pace if once in a while, on up the middle runs, initial contact occurred prior to two yards past the LOS.

You're spot on with the 2012 recruiting class being a big reason why this team is struggling, but you're definitely downplaying the contributions of several guys.

Like it's already been said, Hunter being labeled as a disappointment is just wrong. Maybe his expectations were high due to his physique, but overall he has been a really good DE for LSU.

Mills saw significant PT as a true FR and has been versatile enough to move to S and nickel when needed. He was a good, underrated pick up, IMO.

Vadal Alexander started as a true FR and has been a solid contributor since then. That's about what you want out of a mid level 4 star recruit.

Yea, no DT in 2012 and Freak/Mickey Johnson in 2011...Even if Freak lived up to the hype, that's a pretty poor DT haul over a 2 year recruiting cycle.

Danielle Hunter- Only DL prospect this class. Disappointing so far. Seems to be workout warrior with a major body but not major skills.

Dude leads us in most tackle categories from the DE position. Not sure why people are so down on the guy. He has looked decent, but he can't play all 4 positions on the line at once.

Missing out on Devall and collins in 2012 really hurt.

Yea I remember 2012 as the year of the LB. We took what seemed at the time to be arse load of linebackers and out of all of those, Kwon is the only one to be a good player.

I think LSU just hasn't hit on recruits as your excellent work shows. I don't agree with all your evaluation but it is well done. Look, LSU has been fortunate and had some 3 and 4 stars develop into 5 stars,i.e., Honey badgers, Reid, Claiborne and Mingo. The great defenses made up for the lack of an imaginative offense. And now this team is in a funk, i believe they know other teams, like MS, Ole Miss, and Auburn with their spread offenses are passing them up. This team is not as bad as 0/13 on third downs, and it reflects the lack of inspiration and confidence throughout the team.
